Always love St. Maarten as there’s a lot of options on what to do there.

Did a Carnival excursion. It was a boat ride to watch the planes taking off and landing off Maho beach. It was great! They provided pool noodles so you could sit in water and enjoy the show.

My least favorite of the island's visited. We have been there before, last time we didn't even get off the ship! St. Maarten is a very popular port. There were FIVE ships in port when we docked making it SIX!! Took the water taxi ($7 pp roundtrip) from the warf across the bay to the Philipsburg beach, got very comfortable pad over webbed lounges and umbrella for $20, 15 feet from the waters edge. The 'concessionaire' also provided a beach runner refreshment service for cold beer and a full menu from one of the restaurants at very reasonable prices (burger, grilled maki-mahi, Guiness & tip $25!!) I think the fact that it is always crowded and not especially beautiful and you are directly adjacent to a commercial tourist shopping area put me off a little. It was particularly annoying to have the nearby jewelry store attendant standing outside ALL day non-stop with a microphone and amplifier offering a running commentary to the passerby's interspersed with accompanying the songs and music drifting down from the St. Maarten Hard Rock Cafe (2 doors down) even though she had a soft Allison Steel voice!!!!

Philipsburg is in better shape than Marigot on the French side, but both have many shuttered businesses as they recover from the hurricanes.

It as very desolate on the Dutch side. They still have a lot of damage from the last hurricane and it didn't look like anyone was doing anything to fix the homes. Many were without roofs. The French side seemed to be better off. Roofs were being replace on what looked to be expensive homes. The beach was lovely. The restaurants on the beach were very expensive.

Went to Maho Beach at the Sunset Grill. Watched the plans land and enjoyed cocktails and a light lunch.

When you go to get a taxi, it was complete Chaos. There were locals running the 'car port area' and they were yelling at each other, it turns out a lot of them are for 'organized tours' and then there were regular taxi's just waiting to take someone to a place. We stood around for a good 15 min not getting any service and we asked and they would just forget about us. So you have to be persistent and keep asking till you find the right person that will help you.
