Have to do the extended Peggys Cove lighthouse. The shorter tour doesn't provide enough time to fully enjoy the village and photo ops at the lighthouse. I want to go back and spend more time in the city and surrounding area.

Being the closest rescue port to the site of the Titanic tragedy, this area had a very interesting story to tell after that fateful night. Visiting the Fairview Lawn Cemetery was moving and it was good to follow that up with a visit to the Maritime Museum. The Citadel was also worth the visit, providing a great deal of history regarding the fort built in the mid-18th century to protect the growing city. We chose to take the hop on/hop off bus tour that provided easy transport to all of the city's major interest sites. I recommend this highly.

We got an opportunity to visit the site of "Africville. This was a black village in Halifax until the 1960's. A replica of the church is on the spot and serves as a museum. There are no excursion and we had to catch a cab. Even then, the cab driver had to ask another cab driver. He was surprised that he lives in Halifax and had never heard of Africville. During slavery, many blacks would escape slavery by jumping on the British Ships heading back to England. They got dropped off there in Halifax and formed a town/village called Africville. Little known fact, Dwayne "Rock" Johnson's father was born in Africville.

Did the top 10 best of Halifax tour, which was great. Peggy's cove was beautiful, both the lighthouse and the old cove itself. Got some great pictures of the area. The trip also included the acadian Maple syrup plant and then a tour of the Titanic cemetery with the history regarding the grave sites. The tour also included the gardens which were beautiful. This tour is highly recommended.

Halifax is a decent size city. There are a couple of shops at the pier and a farmers market. We rode a Hop on-Hop off bus and went to Willmans to eat. The food was good and reasonably priced.
