Port of call- short visits, long lines for shuttles

Sitka Sept 14 2023: Rainy, cold, super windy. Diner at Sitka Burger & Crab Shack was amazing 3 pounds of King Crab.

We had gorgeous weather and walked to the totem pole area and Raptor Sanctuary. A lovely place to visit. We had reindeer Hot Dogs, very tasty!

Having to tender was a bit annoying mainly because they passed out tickets and although we went down when tickets began we were on boat #6 which was about a 90 minute wait to get off the boat. Once off the town was beautiful and quaint. We did a hike around the totem pole area and the trees with their cavernous roots were so cool to see.

Late getting off ship so tour guide who was excellent had to adjust our tour. When getting off the ship not given proper directions to go to location for tour start. Very confusing. Need more organization for that stop. I feel we should be compensated for what time we missed. Tour guide was excellent.

We did the Sea Otter and wildlife viewing excursion. Was pretty much a bust. We saw the backs of a few whales (certainly not the leaping pictures they show you), and the otters were so far away that even with binos they were just black specs. We were in port such a short time there wasn’t much else to fo.

Quaint but not much to do so we walked around, visited the Russian Orthodox Church and some cemeteries before having lunch in town and turning to the ship.

I enjoyed the bears, Eagles and Owls they were beautiful. I wasn't a fan of the totem poles, I liked the process of how they carve the poles from trees but I didn't care the amount of attention they gave to them. I Love Nature, So more of the nature part is for me.

Visited the bald eagle center and saw the amazing work they do

Sitka to me was just another small city. I wasn't really impressed with it. I did enjoy going there but I thought it was okay. I was able to see some bald eagles. That was probably the highlight of Sitka for me.
