Our favorite. No excursions but walked on our own. Walked along the pathway around the harbor to the Sitka Sound Science Center (Salmon galore in the harbor and research tanks). Then walked trails through Sitka National Historic Park seeing hundreds of salmon as well as eagles.

Sitka was my favorite stop, mostly because we took a sea kayak excursion that was really fun, and the scenery in Sitka was the best of the trip. It's a beautiful location, with large rocky mountain peaks and hills rising up right from the large ocean, inlets, and channels of water that run all around the place. Kayaking there was a great way to see the natural beauty, and we also saw a bear from our kayak, which was really cool.

Lots of history in this area! Spent most of our port-time in search of a Russian dictionary for my brother. That's what he wanted us to bring him as a souvenir from our cruise. Did find one!!

took tour of the Bear fortress watching baby bears playing then over to the national park for the totem pole walk. Got back in time for lunch across from the visitor center. Had halibut with coleslaw and fries, again ate all the fish leaving the fries.

Gorgeous port with a cute town with lots to see. The port provides free umbrellas and free bus to town (about 12 minutes). Bald eagles EVERYWHERE! Breathtaking sail-out scenery.

Nice walkable port. However, if you take the local native-run buses to raptor center, you may not get a presentation. Those are scheduled around the paying excursions. Still a lot to see. Bus drive to the bear exhibit stopped at viewing site for extended period because there was a whale in the inlet who was active. That was nice of him. Loved the bear reserve.
