December 2015 - 7 Night Southern Caribbean (San Juan Roundtrip) Cruise on Celebrity Summit

7 night Southern Carribean Cruise

Overall, the cruise was very good.  The Summit is an older vessel and lacks the physical activity features of the newer class of ships, so it's geared more for rest and relaxation.  Although it's starting to show its age, the ship was well-maintained and kept very clean.  Cabin and dining room staff were great and attentive.  My wife has a vegan diet and our waiter went out if his way to accommodate her needs, although they clearly aren't generally prepared for vegan diets.  The staff at the casino were very friendly and attentive.  After the first evening our casino waiter (Radley) brought our desired drinks to us without even asking. Shore excursions, mainly snorkeling were very good. The menu in the formal dining room offered daily variety.  One complaint I do have about the dining room is that the dress code did not appear to be consistently enforced. My wife and I do wonder if some men really need to wear their baseball caps in the formal dining room.

Cruise tips

Castries, St. Lucia

Most beautiful of the islands on the itinerary. Snorkeling excursion was very disorganized, but saw some great sites.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Great shore excursion that consisted of a mini-bus tour of the island, with time for shopping and beach.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Old Town is a great destination. Also stayed overnight in the Candado district after the cruise.

St. John's, Antigua

Great catamaran excursion for off-shore snorkeling. Unfortunately, the reefs were all but destroyed in the last hurricane, so there wasn't much to see underwater, other than the fish.
