Your First Cruise...

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone ever lost your luggage on a cruise? If so, what steps did you take to retrieve it and who did you contact for starters?

I always say that. Until you're reunited w/yours bags on the ship, the Porter is the most important person in your cruise equation.

I had a bag delivered 5 days in on a 14 day cruise. It was airline related, not the cruiseline. But my booty didn't care who was at fault - it just knew the "courtesy personal convenience kit" provided by the ship was doing it no good, lol.

"Gift shops" on today's ships do not sell the items one needs in case of lost luggage, so it was a bit rough. I had to cancel excursions that required close toed shoes as I had flown in sandals, but had meds and a few things from my carry on.

We were initially met w/moderate resistance to cabin mate asking to not be charged cancellation penalty for excursions, but a brief conversation w/GS and Shore Ex became more agreeable.

I legit hugged my suitcase when I saw it sitting on the sofa in our cabin one afternoon when we got back on board after a day in HMC. Yep - HMC is where they managed to get reunited w/my bag; the one port I would have bet $$ it wouldn't show up.

Hope nobody has to go through it - more relaxing and enjoyable ways to spend cruise time.

All of our cruises we never lost our luggage. Always tip porters at terminal and airport.

After all these cruises, exactly ONE bag was "mislaid"...theres usually a spot on the ship where they stash unmarked/untagged luggage...but never went there...the steward found it.

Ive had luggage placed infront of the wrong room before.

Ive also grabbed my own that was staged to be deployed throughout the hallways.

I feel like there is more of a chance for luggage to get lost on embarkation day than disembarkation day.

Make sure you tip the porters, so your luggage doesnt get "Lost" (at the bottom of the harbor) ::WinkWink::

We only once almost lost our luggage on RCL Anthem out of Cape Liberty. Our cabin was forward facing at the front of the deck. Just happened to notice a suitcase midship port side as we were walking around which kooed way too familiar. It was our bag. Needles to say we retrieved it ourselves.
