Would you EVER want to be a Cruise Director on a cruise ship?

I grew up watching the Love Boat and I thought that Cruise Director Julie McCoy (Lauren Tewes) was just perfect. NOW, I see various Cruise Directors (in person, and posted pictures from other site members) are EVERYWHERE on the ship at all times of the day and night. There cannot be a long life span for a Cruise Director (IMO) due to the stress of the job. I recently became aware of the total time commitment of the Cruise Director on my Celebrity Edge cruise last year. He seemed to be on active duty 12-hours (plus) every day. Then, you get to repeat your time commitment the following week. And the next week, and ...

Yes, they have a Staff, but ... so much time.

As an aside, if NOT the Cruise Director, who would you want to be ???

I've always thougth being the "super shopper" would be a good job for me. When I was young I had the energy to be a CD, but now...not so much. I admire them so much.

I like your idea......beginning to end...where do I apply?

Yeah, I'm with you (but I wasn't in the Navy..... thanks for your service by the way). I'd like to either be on the mechanical maintenance staff, or on the ships engineering staff. Hands on, working alone (which I enjoy), and I wouldn't have to deal with "less than charming" guests.

The guy who empty's the ashtrays. Since there are now very few smoking areas on a cruise ship, that job would be a breeze. Except for ships that have casinos.... lots of ashtrays in casinos. Hmmmmm....... I guess I'd have to get the job on a Disney ship (they don't have casinos). In fact, they probably have EVEN LESS smoking areas because of that whole "family entertainment" schtick they're always claiming they promote.

So, there you have it. My dream job would be the guy who empties the ashtrays on a Disney cruise ship. That, or ship's Captain. Same difference IMHO.

Aw c'mon AB...........

No. I dont have the patience dealing with people. The cruise directors either are on something or have patience of a saint. My position would be the mechanic dealing hands on with the bowels of the ship, no people just ship innards...I was in the Navy on a destroyer.

Cruise director .. no .. might consider a bar tender ...

The guy that hangs over the side of the ship to wash windows....bwahahahahahahah
