Travel ban US to Cuba

Supposedly if you're already paid you can still go. I believe it goes into effect today. My cruise is in August 2019 fortunately I am paid in full. We'll see what happens.

Yep .. too bad that politics has to cross the line into cruisedom and tourism

It's too bad, as I'm sure a lot of cruise ships would have brought a lot of tourists to Cuba.

One thing for certain, FDR doesn't know diddley about the "territory" in the District of Columbia. https://www.latimes.com/travel/la-tr-travel-cruises-cuba-ships-canceled-20190606-story.html

"FDR is a Cuban, so he certainly knows the territory.." which territory is that KENN...the one with the poor peons out in the weeds. or the one with the 90 calibres in DC? So he makes more in a year (probably not including stock options) than CARNY had to pay for polluting and covering it up. Good thing he's not involved in that...hmmm... Whats wrong with this picture? CRUISE ON!!

It seems like Frank Del Rio with his 35 million dollar annual salary and being such an ardent backer of the POTUS that he could have headed this off. I'm not sure of what type of scheduling FDR had for NCL in Cuba but I know that his Oceania and Regent are heavily involved there. In fact, when we visited Cuba in September it was on the Regent Seven Seas Mariner. Regent provided an excellent shore excursion for us which we took out into the Cuban countryside. FDR is a Cuban, so he certainly knows the territory.

Apparently, FDR and some other cruise line heavy weights visited the White House in early May in an attempt to reason them out of taking such drastic measures, to no avail.

"Hopefully the administration finds a way for us to continue to sail to Cuba,' Del Rio said.

No political pressure

'We think [Cuba] is good for the industry. We don't want to put pressure on the political side. It's business as usual until it's not,' Del Rio said in response to an earnings call question about what came from a rumored visit to Washington by Del Rio and colleagues from other cruise companies.

Del Rio didn't confirm or deny anything about a Washington trip, but said it's too early to tell what's going to happen in the cruise area. More clarity on the Trump administration's new Cuban travel policies is expected.

'This is government, not business. We just have to wait and see,' Del Rio said." http://www.seatrade-cruise.com/news/news-headlines/cruise-industry-all-in-the-same-boat-on-cuba-del-rio.html

Yas yas….hows a body sposed to git to Cuber now? thru N Korea mebbe? THEY just love to give Mericans visas...so somebody put a bug in somebodys ear about all those YANQUI $$ winding up in the wrong hands eh? Now they've gone and done it...alienated the cruising public! Don't those folks in DC know who we are? Rhetorical question....

Something to be said for that these days....

Biggest loophole is to live on the north side of the border Wink

It's a thought that I'm sure lots of people are wondering, but unfortunately I don't think that would work. The ban isn't just on boats/ships/aircraft from America. It's a restriction on the American people going to Cuba at all. I'm sure there are still loopholes, but general tourists aren't allowed, and the people-to-people program has basically been eliminated with this ban, which is how tourists were going before.
