Tipping

My husband and I are going on a cruise in january for the first time. We know nothing about tipping for excursions or using a bus taxi to get to the excursion and back again to the cruise ship afterwards. Can you give us some advice on this subject?

But don't think for a minute you can get a decent cup of coffee on board for $2.

DBG, here is my advice and with that and $2.00 you could get a cup of coffee :). I recommend where this is your first cruise, to book your excursions through the ship until you get a feel for the land, locals, travelling, etc. As for the tipping part, generally if the excursion was good, my wife and and tip $5 - $10. Some may feel that excessive others may feel that too little however, I try to make it a habit to give it to the person that is the most deserving. ie: attentive waiter on the beach, most knowledgable tour guide, etc

Keep in mind that tourist is their main bread and butter and a lot of them survive off of tips.

Cheers

You would be best to log into your actual cruise line discussions on ports and reviews and pick up hints on there. Tipping on excursions really depends on how you found the excursion. If it was good, leave a few Euros/dollars, if it was very good, leave a few more. Most excursions leave direct from the port if you are using the ships excursions

I have been on one cruise with a couple of relatives, this is my first one with my husband who has never cruised before except in the Navy. When I did tip on my one and only cruise I tipped $2.00 one way and another $2.00 when we got back to the pier, was this appropriate?
