If you access the COMMENTS section, be advised, they're unmoderated...sometimes they're more entertaining than the news article. Not in this instance.

Waters in that part of the world can be really ruff. Seems like a freak accident. I was recently on a cruise (Apex) and someone asked the Captain's during a Q&A session about rogue waves. He acknowledged there were certain areas that are more prone (and you tend to plan around those areas in certain times of the year) and there were warning systems for the Atlantic. Guess not in all parts of the world.

The other device I use to see this stuff on allows me to grab a bunch of comments on that site without having to scroll forever to see alot of them. The laminated glass thing was in there, especially on lower decks. ...another kindred spirit in amongst the trolls and riff-raff. Seems like they spent more time discussing the misspelling, and condemning cruise ships in general. But thats normal for unmoderated groups. FWIW, I had to go back and fix it meself, typed it wrong in here several times.....some sort of mental block...I kinda like "rouge waves" anyway. sounds sorta kinky eh?? 300+ passengers on a very small ship in Antarctica's balmy breezes and seas made of glass.......hmmmm...so what have WE got to complain about? heheheheh

Saw this yesterday. Sad but it happens. The ship held up well other than the unfortunate window. Not the first rouge wave to hit a cruise ship. There was a 70 ft one that hit NCL Dawn in 2005 just SE of NY.

Tragic, yet also very strange.

In the "you would think" column I question how and why the glass failed. You would think that they would have automotive grade laminated glass windows, especially considering the part of the world in which they're sailing is known for rogue waves.
