Reviews and responses - is it me or....

I appreciate when people take the time to leave a well-considered review of their cruise. I want to hear the good and the not-so-good. However, lately I have noticed some very sarcastic responses to a couple reviews. Perhaps the original post might have sounded a bit whiny but responding with mean/sarcastic comments not called for and not what I've come to expect in terms of quality exchanges here. I'm all for putting on one's big girl/boy pants when participating in online forums, but I'm also very put off by some of these needlessly mean spirited responses. I've flagged a few as a result.

My biggest concern is that this site turns into so many others where the discussion topic veers off course into name-calling and pointless retorts. Does anyone else notice this or feel the same regarding the tone of posts here at cruise line.com?

CruisingCM, it is not just you. People get nasty for no reason. That is what I like about this site there is very little mean spirited comments.

I have read a couple of mean spirited responses. We do have to remember that people voluntarily post reviews here. No one gets paid to do so. Even if we don't agree with what was written we shouldn't turn people away from our site by what we write.

I have read a few, it seams to be one or two people with the name calling. I have flagged a couple of them. It is not only the replies, I have read a review where the reviewer call Carnival passengers "sociably unacceptable" "because the price was so low" "We were stuck with them at the dining table" When people asked to to elaborate she said that there must be something wrong with them for having the time to ask questions of her review. I replied that maybe the rest of the ship found them socialy unacceptable snobs. She could have done the review and gotten her point across without being insulting.

So far I have only read a few when they hit the forum for open discussion. If I add the first post to a review I typical do not post it to the forum. Most of the time I ask for clarification of an issue or give a hint that my be useful to them.
