Considering her current location seems to be off of Icy Straight Point, as was scheduled for today, I will make the supposition she did sail as intended on May 3.

Yeh, except your car involves YOU and your mechanic, and while it is certainly possible to have a breakdown "on the road", you're comparing apples and oranges. cruise ships have an ENTIRE full time engineering crew (snipes is the old term) to keep things running. since they don't operate from "shore power" yet, the thing had to be percolating while in port...to discover that they're immobile AFTER a few thousand peeps had boarded is a total load of offal, and basically unheard of...yes, it was a "generous offer", yes I would take it, (sounds silly, how could you say "no") but then to actually do it you have to reschedule your vackay, same group alot has to come "back together" to do a "redo" no matter who is paying for it. not so easy to just sigh, smile and leave...I say again....THEY KNEW.....

The word on the street is the ship will be ready to sail on may 4th. So big relax for those of you with a ticket to go. These ships are full of mechanical things that fail occasionally just like your car does...sometimes you get a warning ahead of time? Yeah its a huge disappointment that this world is full of...so try and think positive and look for other opportunities should this happen to you cause we all will eventually have to navigate these situations. See you at Sea!

Well, hot damn. Im feeling a tad selfish, and hoping these issues are ironed out prior to the July 12 Sailing.

Im very flexible, however the rest of the 11-person party is not...

If there are ongoing issues, I could see this spelling the end for Radiance. What may be her only saving grace is that Royal Caribbean boasts her as the First ship specifically designed to sail Alaska Itineraries, so perhaps a major drydock refit and overhaul will be the response.

Just as well. The weather up there looks like it's going to suck next week. I don't understand why anyone would want to go to Alaska in April anyway? IMHO that's a June-Aug booking (maybe first week in Sept, but no later). If you ask me, they dodged a bullet.

Now they can get loaded on RCL's dime, (maybe even get free steak dinners if they squawk loud enough), and they get a free cruise. SCORE! Big Smile

Interesting take on the situation.

I'd hate to be on one of those flights out with the guys that just left the open bar with a bee in their bonnet because their cruise got cancelled. Stay tuned for rerouted flights due to unruly passengers.

Yeh , I saw that...nice package, but I agree, I'd rather be told before I schlepped to and onto the ship...nobody will tell me with a straight face that they didn't know just how f up the ship was way prior...

All your money back, plus a voucher for that same amount to spend on another cruise, open bar, hotel accommodations, free internet and help with transportation expenses is a nice compensation package. However, I'm sure many passengers would rather have been sailing. Hope the ship gets repaired before the next sailing is scheduled to leave. Personally, I think I'd rather all that than be told a day before "so sorry we aren't sailing. here's your money back."
