My husband and I are first time cruisers. We will be taking a 5 night Western Caribbean cruise in November. This has 2 ports, one in Cozumel and the other in Grand Cayman Islands. How much cash should I bring with me? I’ve heard it is better to put everything from the ship on my credit card, but bring cash for the ports. Also approximately how much is everyone’s final bill on the cruise? I just wanted to be prepared before I get s shock.

When you go on a cruise you get a "Sign and Sail card" this card is registered to you for the one cruise. it is linked to your Credit card for all charges on the ship like
1. Tips will be auto charged to it
2. Drinks from Bars, bottled water, soda, specialty coffee from the MDR, Room service or the coffee house. ( tap water, regular coffee and tea are free 24/7 in the buffet area)
3. Excursions booked through the cruise line
4. If you put your Casino bill on your Sign and sail card.
The only cash you will need on the ship is if you want to Tip extra to any employees that deserve extra tips beyond the auto charged tips.
In port you will need cash or credit card for anything you buy, Lunch, Drinks, shopping Non ship excursions.
Your final bill can be as low as just your auto tips (about 14.00 PP per day) up to a huge bill depending how much you drink, how much you loose at the Casino, how many excursions you book and if you go to any of the extra charge specialty dining.
I have had cruises with barley a final bill (when I pre-pay tips) when I do not have any bar drinks up to when I was younger and drinking a lot, my bar tab was more then the price of the cruise.
