Money

My husband and I are first time cruisers. We will be taking a 5 night Western Caribbean cruise in November. This has 2 ports, one in Cozumel and the other in Grand Cayman Islands. How much cash should I bring with me? I’ve heard it is better to put everything from the ship on my credit card, but bring cash for the ports. Also approximately how much is everyone’s final bill on the cruise? I just wanted to be prepared before I get s shock.

Thanks Everyone!

If you want to avoid final-bill sticker shock, I recommend pre-paying service charges ("gratuities").

As for the port, YMMV, but I carry only a small amount of cash (more, if on an excursion, for tipping excursion guides), and pay where I can with credit card. I personally prefer the CC fraud protection to carrying large amounts/bills in cash.

Note: you can go to any port and not spend a penny. How much you choose to spend is entirely up to you.

Similarly, you can spend the entire cruise and not incur a penny in onboard charges - though there are lots of ways that you can choose to spend money.
