It’s been awhile. You might need to do this

Okay, so, we’ve all been stuck inside and unable to cruise. We forget about something we do every time we travel. Well, now that cruising will return soon, I have one question; HOW IS YOUR PASSPORT?

Is it due to expire within the next year ? If so, you will need a new one. Remember, your passport must be valid for 6 months after your return date.

I only bring this up because we have to renew ours in January ( or a little later ). I noticed it the other day.

That’s it. Enjoy.

Mine expires between scheduled cruises...so Im just gonna renew it now.

Thanks for the reminder, I'm good until 2027.

Bump

This is GREAT advice.

I would like to add to it though for those that don't have passports and feel that they should still be able to cruise (once it resumes from the USA) on a birth certificate and DL, that they may not have that choice with the documents they have currently.

GET A PASSPORT or immediately make an appointment with your state's division of motor vehicles to get a REAL ID compliant driver's license.

Fact: The REAL ID goes in to effect 10-1-2021 (unless the federal government does another delay) and people will not be able to get past the TSA security checkpoint at airports without a federally acceptable form of ID. See https://www.tsa.gov/real-id

Speculation (please these are only currently rumors from lobbyists, so take with a grain of salt.): In light of the whole Covid Pandemic precautions the CDC, MIGHT make it so the CBP/DHS will only accept a REAL ID compliant DL (w/ BC) or passport for repatriation after a cruise as part of conditions to allow departures from US homeports.

SO in light of how long it could take to get either the Star embossed DL or a passport, it's better to start the process now to insure that you will have the correct documentation already in hand come the implementation date. This is due to many places having the clerks and agents that process paperwork for these still working remotely even when the rest of a region has relax or eliminated public mandates on social distancing and workplace occupancy.

Thank you for this reminder. Might just be what I needed.

Always a good reminder, thanks!

I DID NOT KNOW THAT! My bad,Surprised

We're still good for this year but we'll definitely need to renew for our cruise scheduled in '22.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the reminder! We are okay on the passport, but this year I have several other things that need renewal!Wink

I renewed mine a few years back, so I think I'm good.

Great reminder, especially sine I’ve heard of several people experiencing delays receiving them over the past year. We did ours Feb 2020 for our May 2020 cruise that ended up being cancelled in April, so I think we’ll be good to go when cruising resumesWink. It’s my first passport, and my wife’s had expired plus had her maiden name on it. I was a little excited to use it instead of my DL & BC, and she was happy not to have to use DL, BC, & ML, but guess we have to wait until our next cruise.
