Hello.
I am thinking of sailing on the Sapphire Princess in February 2020. Has anyone purchased Internet packages on the cruise departing out of Singapore to Southeast Asia? I need to run my business over the Internet, and I’m trying to determine how reliable or unreliable Internet access is?
Also, can anyone tell me if the WiFi works in the staterooms?
We have had internet packages a few times on cruises. Some better than others. Cannot speak for Princess but NCL internet is ok, had no issues. RCL was better. Fast good and reliable but that was on a trip with good weather to Bermuda. I have worked (through my employment) via a satellite connection to a Disney cruise vessel working on some software issues in bad weather and that was quite problematic as the connection kept dropping.
Long and short .. if the weather is good you might be ok but if there is rough weather all bets are off. If the business need is mission critical you cannot rely on ship internet but in good seas it should be fine.
Agreed...haven't been on that cruise, but don't see where it matters. Havent heard anyone with any positive remarks about ships internet connections. Have personally observed people over the years sitting with laptops near the pool...mebbe the idea was they could do "stuff" whilst lounging...they didn't look happy...seemed to be alot of sitting and staring ….we have used a whole bunch (hundreds of minutes per cruise) of "free" minutes at several ships internet centers. we didn't care because we were only checking some emails and messing around, but if we were trying to do some important stuff, well...why don't you amend your plans and just enjoy the cruise...
It works in the staterooms, but that doesn't mean its fast enough to be productive. Its satellite so not that fast and susceptible to interference in weather.
