How to book a single cabin for an older person

The options for single cabins is limited at present but my guess is that if NCL has even modest success with this, the other lines will consider following suit. If other lines add single cabins, it will probably not be a fleet wide phenomenon. They will examine past cruise data on a ship by ship basis to determine vacancy rate, then compare that to customer complaints and requests pertaining to single occupancy. Finally, they will look at the cost of reconfiguring the existing deck plans. If it looks like they will capture more revenue from offering single cabins, they may reconfigure or build in a few of them to newer ships coming off the construction line.

I know at least one time Carnival offered really good singles rates.

It wasn't much more that a double rate cut in half. I only know because

there were 2 singles in our group that year. Maybe keep checking

the websites for sales.

when you book single there is a "Single Supplement" that can be from "Zero" to 100%. I use a booking website that does have a special area that has a list of reduced cost trips for singles. Some of the cruise lines web sites will give you the single price when you look into a cruise and you put 1 person per cabin.

Some cruise lines have started putting single cabins onto some of the new ships, like NCL and Cunard. There are very limited single cabins and may need to be booked well in advance. When I traveled on Carnival during a promotion for single occupancy the line had a couple MDR tables for the singles. That was nice that we did not get stuck with families in the dining room. One reviewer stated that on NCL in the "Studios" they had an ast. cruise director set up a dining time for all the singles so you did not have to eat alone since it is free style.

Booking long term it is hard to get a "singles" rate unless you go with a ship that offers smaller singles cabins. However on our last cruise there were several single people that booked last minute (within the week before the cruise) and they were able to get NCL to waive the extra fee for a single booking a regular cabin. As with things on the islands ... everything is negotiable. Just sometimes you have to wait for the right time to do it. Your travel agent or advisor may have some helpful ideas or suggestions on this one.

I am only aware of the Norwegian mega ships from New York have single/studio units. I am sure that other posters will have some idea who else does a single. I believe there should be more, but finances for lines are based on each passenger..... the more the merrier.
