For example, was there a fire on board, did the ship pick up refugees in the water, was a celebrity on board, did you win really big in the casino, etc...

Actually yes... I think I was on the Reflection and we stopped to give aid to refugees floating around the Caribbean until the Coast Guard to arrive to take over. It happened in the wee hours so most people were not even aware of what happened until the next day.
This was exciting. Your ship could have saved their lives.
There was a problem with the plumbing on a cruise and the shower was backed up. Fortunately the toilet wasn't affected. I think they fixed it while we were in port.

I can do without all that interesting happenings.
Last cruise we went exactly 3 years ago today we got out of NY Oct 27 2 hours before they closed the port because of incoming hurricane Sandy and then squeezed between Sandy and the coast as we went south to Fla. All doors to the outside on all decks were locked closed. I thought it was great but some (my daughter for one) were not feeling the best as the seas the first night were a tad rough.
My sister was on a cruise when Sandy hit and she doesn't like cruises that much to begin with. She was not happy on that cruise.
Hey Bubba54, I'll remember not to go on a cruise that you go on after reading all the things that have happened to you on cruises.
Hey Glo, just makes,it interesting!
Lets see, we had a rescue at sea. That required the Air Force helicopter and a C130 had to come out to refuel it. On one cruise we left the dock in Houston to return four hours later for a medical emergency.
While sailing on the Zaandam to Hawaii the stableizers went out in rough seas, rocked and rolled for two days.
On the westerndam we were awakened by a fire alarm at 6am. It was quikly put out and we returned to sleep. That is about it.

My my sister who is not keen on ocean cruising was caught on her cruise up the Eastern Seaboard when Sandy hit. She was not a happy cruiser.
Thanks for replying. You certainly had some unusual happenings on your cruises. Congratulations on winning so much at Bingo. Who knew you could win so much.
The funny thing about the bingo is, I had never played it. People we were traveling with had been playing all week. I only went because my wife was getting ready for dinner. It was the last night, and you had to get all the numbers, Black Out, if I recall. So the game is going on, and I get on a run. Next thing you know I yell out BINGO! I figure someone else must have it too, or I made a mistake somewhere. Keep in mind, our friends are glaring at me. So we go over the card and sure enough, it's a winner. So, they take me upstairs to do some paperwork, and they ask if I knew how much I had won. I thought it was about $2000/$2200. The guy says no, more like $3800, now you afford to stay next week too. I told him I was already staying next week. Which we were, it was a B2B for us. So, I go to dinner, and no one is talking to me. And my wife still hadn't come down. I go find a house phone, but she gets to the table in the mean time, and, no one is talking to her. By the time I finally catch up with her and tell her what happened everyone was laughing. I bought champagne for our tables, the rest went to pay off my diabetic cats vet bill.
Oh yeah, I forgot. We had a Navy helicopter airlift one of two brothers to a hospital. He survived, barely. The younger brother drowned in the pool. A quick note to parents, a 7 year old is not equipped to watch over a 5 year old. That's your job as a parent.
