Automatic Ugrades

Booked a 15 day cruise in June for December trip and inside cabin with Star Princess. Received actual room assignment last month...Deck 10 mid ship. Received “upgrade” notice today of obstructed ocean view, 2 decks below. No offers, credits or money back. Would rather have original inside instead of an OV with lifeboat in front of window. What experience have you all had with another upgrade within 30 days of sailing?
Thank you all for any advice.

Generally speaking, what happened to you is the classic reason why "upgrades" can often be "downgrades".. As far as I know, all the lines operate this way. If they don't I'd love to know which actually tell you in advance what your "new upgraded ASSIGNED" cabin will be. But I guess the bidding process wouldn't work unless you agreed in advance to accept THEIR cabin assignment. I have found those assigned cabins are usually the ones they couldn't sell. I spend an inordinate amount of time choosing our cabin. Operative word "I"...

Yankee47 - I agree! Reason why "I" booked through cruise line itself....however "I" neglected to choose cabin from get go...Nervous Concur on being "upgraded" to an unsaleable cabin. Will be calling them today.

Thank you again for your response and experience info.!

Be curious to know how it turns out. Is it noncancelable? Be careful about penalties. Good luck!!

The good auto upgrade has been dampened out with the bidding up programs some cruise lines have initiated. If anyone gets a "good deal" upgrade without trying, it would be great to celebrate and share the good fortune.

Interested in knowing how the cruise line responds.

I always tell the Princess rep “no automatic upgrade” when I select my stateroom when booking my cruise. I suffer from motion sickness, and also am a light sleeper. So, I am particular about the location of my stateroom.
