Carnival Dream

June 2014 - Carnival Dream to Caribbean - Eastern

Best ship and awesome experience!

Every cruise ship should be modeled after the Dream. Deck 5, which goes all around the ship, is what makes this ship #1. It is so easy to get around and really easy to go from one event to the next. The two pools are nice and the area around them is roomy and fun. We never waited more then a few minutes to get our food in the buffet line. The omlet station can take a bit longer but that is to be expected. All the food on the ship is really good. Dinner is especially good in the dinning room.  Service was way above average. Our room was always clean and the bathroom was perfect. I took three showers a day and everytime we left, the room was recleaned and stocked with fresh towels.  We asked for turndown service at 8pm so our younger special needs daughter could get to bed by 8:30pm and every night is was done. Not only was it done, but it was always before 8pm. Service at dinner was the same. Our head waiter, Joseph, was more then attentive to our needs. He somehow read my mind and brought me things I forgot to mention or was thinking of getting but didn't speak up. He even cut up my daughters steak one night and offered to feed her so I could enjoy my dinner. I was speechless. Joseph alone made me want to go back to the Dream. Or never get off!

I have never been on vacation that allowed me to get so relaxed that when I returned home I forgot how do do things for myself.  I really can't say enough about how good the service and experience as a whole was on this trip. I'm 41 years old and I have been on some very nice trips. This one is at the top if not THE TOP of the list.

It would be extreemly hard for us to go on another ship after this experience. We sailed on the Elation which was a good experience, but nothing like the Dream. The Dream is a huge ship but it feels small. It felt like we were on a ship with 500 people at the most at any given time. Not 3600. Its quick to get around, never felt crouded, the entertainment was top notch and easy to enjoy, and fun.

Our family of 4, me nad my wife, our 14 year old (who we hardly saw in the evening because she was having fun with kids she met in the pool) and our 9 year old special needs daughter, (who can walk, but most of the time we use a folding wheel chair) are already thinking about our next trip on the Dream.

expose11's Tips

New Orleans, Louisiana - I like New Orleans. There is lots to do. There is even more to do if your an adult. Some streets (Bourbon Street) not so family friendly. The kids might get too much of an education.
Key West, Florida - It was a nice stop if you have never been. But once you do the shopping and the hop on/off trolley tour, there's not much more to do. Next time we will just go to the beach or charter a sail boat. Maybe go snorkeling. Its kind of a tourist trap.
Nassau, Bahamas - We did an excursion to Sandles private island. 30 minute boat ride from the port to the island. Perfect way to really see Nassau. The water is amazing. You will not want to leave. The excursion included the round trip boat ride and burger/hotdog fries and a drink. Beach was very nice and had chairs and umbrellas. Plenty of t hem too. The sand was not quite as nice as Freeport but still great. In the water it was amazing. It's like being in a huge pool. But you realize its the ocean. Its almost too perfect to believe its natural. The trip was too short though. We had to leave at 1:30. I think next time we will skip getting the food included and eat a bigger breakfast. Getting and eating the food wasted beach time.
Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - Loved Freeport. The port is not much to look at, but plenty of shopping. Don't waist your time going to the straw market. The same stuff can be had at the port. One thing about the Bahamas, once you visit one hut/vendor, you've seen them all. We went to an all inclusive resort and paid $15ea for access to their private beach. I have never touched sand so perfect.(think powder) Cab ride there was $5ea. round trip. There was a market across the street. Again, every hut had the same stuff. Still kind of fun to look though.
Carnival Dream Carnival Dream - Eat dinner around 6pm so you can go to the show after and then go straight to the comedy club after the show. They really have the timing right on when shows start so you don't have to miss anything. Relax and let people do stuff for you.
