Silversea to Acquire Former Crystal Cruises Luxury Expedition Ship
Royal Caribbean Group’s Silversea Cruises today announced they have received approval to acquire Endeavor, the luxury expedition vessel formerly owned by Crystal Cruises.
The ship entered the Crystal Cruises fleet just in 2021. Silversea will rename the vessel Silver Endeavour when it takes full possession this month. The ship was purchased by Royal Caribbean Group for a cost of $275 million.
“With Endeavour, we are seeking to grow our world-class fleet to meet the exceptional demand for ultra-luxury expedition cruising, while also enhancing our profitability profile and affirming Silversea’s position as the industry’s leading ultra-luxury and expedition cruise line,” remarked Jason Liberty, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group.
Silver Endeavor is built to PC6 polar class specifications, meaning it can travel in polar regions. It can operate all of Silversea’s expedition itineraries and will allow the line to further travel into more of the world’s remote destinations. The ship offerers top amenities, and some of the highest ratios of space-per-guest and crew-to-guest for vessels of this type. It also comes with luxury expedition amenities, such as a fleet of zodiac boats for remote exploring.
“The expedition cruising industry is poised to resume accelerated growth driven by demand among high-end, affluent customers for travel to remote and hard-to-access destinations,” said Roberto Martinoli, president and CEO, Silversea Cruises. “This ship will be the fourth vessel to join Silversea’s fleet since 2020, which demonstrates our commitment to growth.”
Royal Caribbean will honor and protect the deposits of guests who were originally booked on Crystal Endeavor, and make a new booking on any of its brands - Silversea Cruises, Royal Caribbean International, or Celebrity Cruises. Additionally, if Crystal Endeavor guests did not receive their deposits back from Crystal or other sources, Royal Caribbean Group will refund any amount paid on their new booking up to the amount of their lost deposits from Crystal. Details will be available on this soon.
Silver Endeavour will quickly enter the market for service, with scheduled sailings announced for winter 2022/2023 season. The ship will spend its inaugural season in Antarctica starting in November 2022.
This news comes on the heels of exciting updates for the in-question Crystal Cruises fleet and brand. Just last month it was announced that luxury operator A&K Travel Group Ltd. had Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity. The vessels will operate under the ‘Crystal Cruises’ brand, which the company also acquired.
