Royal Caribbean Marks Construction Milestone for Star of the Seas
Last week, Royal Caribbean International marked an important construction milestone in the construction of its next Icon Class ship, Star of the Seas.
A keel-laying ceremony was held at the ship’s building dock in Turku, Finland. Royal Caribbean Vice President of Newbuilding Mika Heiskanen was on hand for the ceremony of placing freshly minted coins before a massive steel block was then placed on top. This maritime tradition is meant to signify good luck during construction.
Following are photos shared by Royal Caribbean from the keel-laying ceremony for Star of the Seas:
Star of the Seas will begin cruising from Port Canaveral, Florida, starting in August 2025. The new ship will have eight neighborhoods (including Thrill Island, Chill Island, AquaDome, and the open-air Central Park), more than 40 bars/restaurants, and cutting-edge entertainment options.
The vessel will spend its inaugural season sailing 7-night Western and Eastern Caribbean voyages. Depending on the itinerary, port stops include visits to Perfect Day at CocoCay, Basseterre, Cozumel, Philipsburg, Roatan, or San Juan, Puerto Rico.
