Royal Caribbean Celebrates Utopia of the Seas Float Out

Royal Caribbean this past weekend celebrated the official float out of Utopia of the Seas, the cruise line’s next Oasis Class ship.

The ship was floated out for the first time, marking a major milestone and the next phase of construction for the vessel. Utopia of the Seas is being constructed at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France.

This key moment occurred after 17 months of construction. The 15-hour floatout process consisted of filling the ship’s dry dock with more than 46 million gallons of water overnight. Utopia was then moved into its outfitting dock, where it will stay until its completion in 2024.

In the next phase of construction, Utopia of the Seas will receive its highly-anticipated guest features such as the 295-foot-long Ultimate Abyss (the longest dry slide at sea) as well as a first-of-its-kind immersive train car dining experience. Utopia will offer 40 ways to dine and drink, including a reimagined Izumi restaurant (now in Central Park with a pick-up window) and a new Caribbean tiki bar, the Pesky Parrot. Guests will also enjoy a number of new outdoor activities, like a newly designed resort-style pool deck.

Utopia of the Seas is the first Oasis Class ship powered by liquefied natural gas and the cruise line’s second LNG-powered ship, following Icon of the Seas. The new ship will advance Royal Caribbean’s decades-long commitment to the environment by combining LNG technology with a lineup of environmentally friendly features.
