Royal Caribbean Celebrates Float Out for Star of the Seas
Royal Caribbean celebrated as its second Icon Class ship, Star of the Seas, is officially one step closer to its debut. The ship reached a major construction milestone as it floated for the first time, less than one year ahead of its maiden voyage from Port Canaveral in April 2025.
To mark the occasion, the line hosted a traditional maritime ceremony, complete with a shot from a cannon, at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. The proverbial floodgates opened to fill Star of the Seas’ dry dock with 92 million gallons of water, an overnight process that took nearly nine hours.
Star of the Seas was then floated out of the dock and into the outfitting pier, where it will continue to take shape inside and out.
Royal Caribbean will double the world’s best vacation with Star of the Seas. The ship will bring new twists and experiences introduced by Icon of the Seas, including eight neighborhoods for every type of traveler. Guests will be able to experience many special experiences on Star of the Seas, with thrills like six of the fastest and tallest waterslides at sea, 40-plus ways to dine and drink, and the Surfside neighborhood for families.
Star of the Seas will sail from Port Canaveral, offering seven-day cruises to the Caribbean, including stops at the cruise line’s private island Perfect Day at CocoCay.
