Norwegian Cruise Line Brings Onboard Entertainment Home with “EMBARK NCL Spotlight” Series

Have you missed sitting in a theater watching top-notch entertainment as your ship sails along to your next destination? Norwegian Cruise Line is now bringing that experience to your home with their new online programming ‘EMBARK NCL Spotlight’. In this series, Norwegian will showcase the high-caliber Broadway and West End entertainment that the line is known for having onboard its ships.  

The first episode of the ‘EMBARK’ series kicked-off on November 19, with a special reunion performance of The Choir of Man filmed at London’s West End Garrick Theatre. The episode included performances of guest favorites including “Save Tonight,” “Escape (The Piña Colada Song),” “Hello” and “Some Nights” as well as discussions with The Choir of Man members discussing how they have been handling these historic times. According to Norwegian, the performance received more than 500,000 views within the first week of airing. The Choir of Man holds official residency on both Norwegian Escape and Norwegian Encore ships.

Additional performances are already in development by Norwegian for the ‘‘EMBARK NCL Spotlight’ programming. “Now more than ever, we are all longing for connection,” said Richard Ambrose, senior vice president of entertainment and cruise programming at Norwegian Cruise Line, in an official announcement on ‘EMBARK’. “Entertainment unites us, allowing us to forget our worries, even if just for a short while.  We have always been advocates for the entertainment community and are committed to providing high-caliber performances for our guests.  While theaters are closed and gatherings are limited, we want to support our fellow performers while connecting with our guests in a meaningful way. Through this exclusive offering, we hope to showcase human resiliency and offer hope for a better tomorrow. In the end, we are in this together and that’s why we will all persevere.”

Norwegian has announced that its next episode of the Spotlight series, 'Live from Broadway', will premiere December 17, 2020. This episode will feature performances from famed Broadway performers and casts of productions from across Norwegian’s fleet, including Kinky Boots (available on Norwegian Encore), Jersey Boys (available on Norwegian Bliss), and Million Dollar Quartet (available on Norwegian Getaway, as well as Footloose (available on Norwegian Joy, After Midnight (available on Norwegian Escape) and more. Performers include famed musical theater veterans Brenda Braxton, Alan Mingo and Stephanie Pope.

The nearly 40-minute “EMBARK NCL Spotlight” episode “Live From Broadway” will stream live on Thursday, December 17 at 9 PM EST on the ‘EMBARK’ series website at: www.ncl.com/embark or on the Norwegian Cruise Line Facebook page. Following the live stream, the performance will be made available on-demand at the ‘EMBARK’ website.
