Carnival Cruise Line has unveiled the first details about what guests will find onboard Carnival Venezia. The former Costa Cruises ship (Costa Venezia) has received a complete rehaul as it prepares to debut in NYC next spring.

Carnival Venezia is a new style of vessel for Carnival, with a number of Italian-inspired venues and onboard elements. The ship has the capacity to hold 4,072 passengers and 1,424 crew.

To preview the ship, Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy, joined Carnival’s Director of New Build Product Development Glenn Aprile for a virtual reveal at Il Mulino in New York City.

“Carnival Fun Italian Style is a new take on our recipe for creating memorable Carnival cruises, but certainly, fun will still be at the heart of everything we do on board. Guests will feel right at home on Carnival Venezia, with our friendly team members and many familiar venues and experiences on board, but the addition of several creative new concepts from dining and beverage to entertainment will surely offer some new favorites and further enhance the ship’s Italian theming,” said Duffy.

Following is a preview of some of the new shipboard highlights shared for Carnival Venezia.

Ship Design

Carnival Venezia’s atrium is to be the first element that the cruise line has redesigned that guests will experience. The space features an Italian architectural design that is modeled after Venice’s main public square, Piazza San Marco.

The ship’s outdoor spaces will feature many Italian touches as well as some first-in-fleet offerings. The Lido deck is modeled after the Italian Riviera and features a retractable roof - perfect for guest enjoyment during the cooler months at its homeport in NYC. On the top deck, Carnival Venezia will have a Serenity area, an adults-only retreat with lounge furniture, two whirlpools, and a new bar.

Another redesigned public space includes the theatre area, the Teatro Rosso, which will serve as an entertainment and programming hub.

For cabins, Carnival has retrofitted the ship with a number of new upgrades. They have added mini-bars and standard American power outlets to all staterooms. Carnival Venezia will offer a new cabin concept called Terrazza staterooms (similar to the Havana staterooms). These 77 cabins are to be located on decks 5-9 aft, with options of interior rooms, balcony rooms, and the special Terrazza Cabanas (which offer a private patio and direct lanai access to the Terrazza Carnevale). Guests staying in all Terrazza staterooms receive the following exclusive perks: access to Carnevale Lounge, complimentary continental breakfast, Terrazza-branded robes/towels, and an exclusive sail-away event with live music.
