Carnival Freedom

Carnival Freedom

Sail date: April 01, 2009

Food was too SALTY!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was out 4th time on carnival and we were very happy with the variety of foods but found that most of the food, especially the meat dishes and soups were very salty. We always enjoy listening to the Philipino band that plays in the swing lounge but the only problem was that they played the same songs everytime they performed and did not seem to have much new songs and variety. The Caribbean band was excellent. The decor of the ship was beautiful and we loved how the lights changed colours in the lobby. Our stateroom was very noisy with loud engine sounds (avoid a room on the front of the ship on the riviera deck if you can). Overall the ship was kept very clean and the service was fine.

Too many rude and loud locals on board

This was our 7th cruise (3rd time with Royal Caribbean). Check in and boarding was a breeze (less than 1/2 hour before getting to our cabin from time we arrived to the port). Food was not very good. We tried Johnny Rockets ($3.95 surcharge) and the burgers were nothing different that what u could get at the buffet grill. Too many locals from Puerto Rico in big groups on board that were rude and loud. Much of the entertainment was catered to the spanish speaking crowd. We could not enjoy the live music bands without the local spanish speaking guests singing loudly along to disturb other guests who are trying to enjoy the performers. They talked very loud when walking in the hallways, elevators and past other staterooms even late at night. There was salsa music and dancing in the lounge and merenque contest s where the host only spoke in Spanish without any translation to English. The main shows were very boring and uninteresting aside from the comedian and the live music from the bands around the ship. Our stateroom attendant was lousy and lazy. We had to remind him to refill our shampoo pump, give us bar soap , and refill our ice buckets. He did not even clean our room properly before letting us go in. We found a dirty men's underwear and shirt in the closet. There was a cochroach crawling across the floor and the drawers were still dirty with receipts left behind be other guests before us. The ship was beautiful and well kept. The islands were starting to look the same after the 3rd port. The only place to get food after hours was at the cafe promenade, where they only had cookies, pizza and pre-made sandwiches. The overall service of the dining room staff was excellent and the cruise director Pierce Ivan, was very energtic, friendly and funny. We would definitely sail with Royal Caribbean again, but we will never board from San Juan, Puerto Rico again due to the large number of locals on the ship.

Carnival Dream

Carnival Dream

Most beautiful ship so far!!

We were on the Carnival Dream for the January 23rd, 2010 sailing. It is our 5th time with Carnival. We had always enjoyed the entertainment on carnival ships, especially the live bands, However, we were very dissapointed with the bands that performed on this ship. They only played one type of music. One band only played calypso music and we did not recognize any of the songs, another band just played salsa music, and the main band lead called Voodoo only played rock n roll. We miss the bands that are more versatile and played all kinds of music and songs that we actually heard of. The sushi on this ship was disgusting and the worst we ever had on a cruise. However, the ship's decor was the most beautiful of all the ships that we have sailed on so far. The atrium was so elegant with gold shaving panels everywhere. The pool areas were colourful with lots of hanging flower pots. The bars and lounges were just so elegant, and we love the red themed dining room with the beautiful red chandeliers. It looked so romantic. Our favourite place to hang out was the adult serenity area where there were neat chairs, hammocks, and whirlpools. The food was fantastic and lots of variety to choose from. We loved the tandoori counter that served indian food and the pasta bar on the second floor of the buffet area. The best entertainment on this ship were the breakdancers, especially "Poppin John". Overall, we had a great time and will definitely sail with carnival again soon.

Crown Princess

A dissapointing cruise

This was our 5th cruise, our first with Princess. We went on the Crown princess for 9 days. There were only 4 ports to be visited. We did not get to go to Bermuda because of a storm there. Therefore, we only ended going to 3 ports instead. The decor was boring and the casino looked old fashioned and cheap. The casino staff looked like they did not want to be there and had bad attitudes. The entertainment was boring except for the comedians and the hypnotist performer. Too many seniors on the ship. No midnight buffets. The dining room was boring and no entertainment provided by the waiters. There were no towel animals in our rooms. No self serve ice cream on the decks. There was no one to guide us during disembarkation. Not enough live entertainment. Most of the music was provided by a DJ or a one man band. We were very disappointed with this cruise. We enjoyed sailing with Carnival the best and Royal Caribbean was good too, but I would not recommend Princess to anyone under the age of 45.
