Norwegian Spirit

Norwegian Spirit

Sail date: July 22, 2006

I will never cruise Norwegian again.

The ship itself was beautiful. Everything was very unorganized from the beginning. Our queen size bed was not set up upon arrival. When they did set it up, the used 2 twin sheets overlapping one another so we would get tangled up when we slept. Drink prices were absurd, they charged $8 for a drink in a plastic Norwegian glass that you would pay $5.50 for in a regular glass. It was the same amount of alcohol, but if you did not requeat a regular glass they charged the larger price. We kept sending the drinks back to have them put in regular class, then they would charge us twice. Had to constantly wait in line to dispute extra charges. On last day you had to wait in a 2 hour line to get back any credit they convinently did not process, and stated that you could not get credit back after leaving cruise, even if you had a receipt. There were only 4 dining areas that were included in the price, there were 5 other dining areas that charged a fee of $20/person. We had to wait in a 2 hour line the 1st day to make reservation for dinner since this was "Freestyle Cruising". By the time it was our turn there was no available reservations for 2 days, and 9:00pm reservations for the remainder. We had to wait for up to 30-45 minutes at the resturants since we did not have reservations and they gave us a beeper for when they could fit us in. Food was not that great, nor was the menu. It cost 11.50 to participate in any "extra" events, such as yoga, matini making, ect. All other cruises I have been on this was all inclusive. Rooms were very squeeky and noisy, more than other cruiselines. Many people on this cruise were very upset and disappointed. On a good note, the wait staff was very friendly, quick and efficent. They were a pleasure to be with!

Cruise tips

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

We took the Castaway Girl's Catamaran Cruise and Shipwreck snorkel. This was best excursion ever!! Castaway was a blast and staff was awesome. Only complaint is that when we got back everything in St. Thomas was closed (everything closes by 5pm) except 10 stores which closed at 7pm. We did not have time to tour island and do excursion. Dont know why ship was there until 1am, as there was nothing we could do on land.

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

Didn't book excursion through cruise. Got off ship and took a guide tour through island. Saw entire island and learned history and culture. Went to the most beautiful beach in Cane's Bay. Only got to stay for 1 hour, but this was the best hour of the cruise. Wish we could have stayed longer. Ship only at this port until 3pm, could have used more time. Not sure why this port was so short and previous one excessively long.

King's Wharf, Bermuda

Went on a kayak and snorkel tour. A lot of fun, but could not do excursion and see island. Only in port until 5pm, so could not participate in any of the sunset excursions. Once again, not sure why there such short time, and in 1st port so long. Ship was a bit disorganized with what ports we should be at for longer periods of time.
