Review summary

This was my first cruise on Royal Caribbean, and I think it's now my favorite cruise line.  I've sailed on several others, but RC was a notch above the others. From the roominess of the cabin (sofa in even the smallest cabins) to the quality of the entertainment to the value of the items in the on-board shops, RC impressed me with their quality.  And the service was excellent.  Sailing from New Orleans was very convenient.  The vistas of the Mississippi delta as the sun set were outstanding. And New Orleans is a great city to begin or end your cruise.  So much to see and do there.   I'll definitely choose RC again.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

Always a good selection to choose from...something to suit everyone. And if you didn't care for something, they would gladly bring you another entree. The waiter would often bring an additional entree to our table of a special dish that he thought we'd be interested in tasting. That was fun. We were able to try some things that we were hesitant to order. Deserts were fabulous!

Onboard Activities

Lots to choose from. But we spent lots of quality time at the pool.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Serenade was a smaller ship in the RC fleet, but the entertainment was better that I've seen on some of the larger ships on other lines. We loved the shows in the theater. Our favorite entertainment was the terrific duo who tag-teamed in the piano bar- James Neal and Zach Coombs. You haven't lived until you've heard "Freebird" on an acoustic guitar!! It was amazing. And the last night party in the Centrum was great fun.

Service and Staff

All the staff was excellent, especially the cabin steward and dining room servers. Cabin steward knew our names the first day, and always greeted us by name, wishing us a good day or asking about our activities in the evening. Very special!

Ship Quality

Beautifully decorated...very classy...not too glitzy.

Cabin / Stateroom

Spacious. Even had beautiful, heavy drapes that could be pulled closed between the bed and the sofa/TV area. This enabled one person to stay up late watching TV while the other went to sleep with no noise/light. Brilliant!

Ship tip

Be sure to attend the Park West art auction. These are lots of fun, and you have the opportunity to win a really nice piece of art in the numerous raffles that they have. Also, this ship seems to have plenty of lounge chairs for passengers around the pool.

Be sure to visit the Garden District. Take the Street Car up St. Charles all the way to Audubon Park and Tulane University. Enjoy the beautiful homes along St. Charles. If you have a car, just drive around that areas and admire the beautiful homes. Have a memorable meal at Commanders Palace on Washington.

Falmouth, Jamaica

Climb Dunn River Falls. It's an experience you'll every forget. I did it at age 64, so anyone can do it! So much fun!

Visit the Lalique, Bacarat, Waterford shop. Then take a cab to Royal Palms. Small fee to get in, but worth it. Beautiful beach with lounge chairs and umbrellas to rent. Cocktail or food service right to your chair. Beautiful aquamarine water. Heavenly.

Lots of shopping. Great food. We took a small-group (35) excursion on a catamaran for snorkeling. It was terrific. Abundant fish, then great margeritas.
