Review summary

I know that a lot of the port problems were not of NCL’s making, but that didn’t make it any better. The cruise as it eventualized certainly was not what was expected and certainly not worth the money, nor effort, involved. All that we really saw was Glacier Bay National Park but one would do a lot better on a small ship, and shorter cruise, if this was all you wanted! Overall, a very unsatisfactory experience.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

Live in the West and had been to Seattle numerous times so nothing new.

Juneau, Alaska

Maybe not NCL’s problem, but we expected this to be a high point. Weather didn’t allow us to dock until we’ll after dark. Most places, particularly the one we wanted to eat at were closed! Major mark against NCL.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

Another port we were excited to see was Skagway, which was on the itinerary when we sailed and we had booked several excursions. Somewhere en route, NCL, without clear discussion with its passengers, took Skagway off the itinerary and substituted Icy Strait Point. This became our port with the greatest amount of time but also offered almost nothing worthwhile in the way of excursions! A real bust and major Strike 2.

Cruise Glacier Bay

This was the only port (actually open sea stop) worth the trip. It was spectacular!

KETCHIKAN (WARD COVE), ALASKA

Very short port time and not enough to do much. Booked the Lumberjack Show and Crab Feast. While we love crab, generally this, too, was a bust! We expected the Crab Feast to follow the Show but we’re taken back when we went to the Feast at 8:00 a.m., right after breakfast. The following Show was good but then had to hustle back to the ship. Overall, a poor port call.

Victoria, British Columbia

Four hours in the dark! Really! And for this we had to get a negative Covid test! Should have been skipped along with the ports that were!

Disembarkation

Glad to get off the ship!
