Review summary

I loved this cruise. It was the perfect balance of relaxation and fun. Will definitely be going on another Royal Caribbean cruise.

Embarkation

Kind of chaotic when getting dropped off at the port. The only way to know what port your ship is at is to look on the boards once you get to the port or to visually locate your ship. Security was really quick. Waited 20-30 minutes in line to check in. Pretty smooth.

Food and Dining

I was very impressed with the food in the main dining room at dinner. Get two appetizers and two entrees and two deserts if you want them! You're allowed to. My boyfriend and I tried many different things this way. The quality of food in the Windjammer was as expected (pretty good). We did not try any specialty restaurants.

Onboard Activities

The pools were great and weren't ever too crowded, and the mini golf was fun! We never got around to rock climbing or the flow rider, but those looked fun as well.

We spent quite a bit of time in the casino. The casino has lots of options for a cruise ship and great happy hours ($2 mimosas 12-1 some days!). The only issue is that the tables allow smoking, which limited how much consecutive time I could spend there without dying (asthma).

Entertainment

ICE SKATING SHOW! You have to go. I watched probably 15 hours of Olympic ice skating this year and the ice dancing teams were on par with some of the Olympic teams. It was great. My boyfriend and I aren't really show people, but we did attend the comedian shows. They were decent. The game shows seemed a little try-hardy but were still fun.

WOW. We got super lucky and got a panoramic oceanview room after booking the guarantee rate. This room was on the top stateroom deck in the front of the ship. The view was breathtaking, especially on the night when our room was facing west and we got to watch the sunset. Highly recommend if you can afford it. The only con is that you can feel quite a bit of ship movement-- this room is probably as far as you can get from the ship's center of gravity.

Ship tip

My Time Dining is the way to go. Even without making reservations, we usually never had to wait to get seated.

Ports of call

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

This port is a 5 if you're happy with a day just chilling on the beach. Other than beach chilling, there's prety much nothing to do. I highly recommend buying a day pass ahead of time at Jaime's at the blue Reef. $47 per person gets you a spot in the shade on the beach, beach chairs, a table, and unlimited drinks/booze and food as long as you're there.

So fun!! Book a private excursion. We did a tour through island marketing LLT with Omar in a buggy around the island that including snorkeling, beach lunch/pina coladas, and a tequila farm tour. The island has such a laid back feel! Loved it.

Disembarkation

This was rough. Customs halted the flow of people for nearly 45 minutes for unexplained reasons. And getting a Lyft out of the port was extremely frustrating. It was chaos.

Wonderful Cruise Experience
Great Caribbean Cruise. Loved Cozumel. Costa Maya was not what we expected, it could have been a little cleaner. Overall Royal Caribbean did an amazing job.
