Review summary

I do not understand why people are so impressed with Royal Caribbean after going on this past cruise. Yes the ship did look better on the first day based on the inside level 5 where the shopping and bars are, I have only been on the Magic out of Galveston to compare but I would much rather that cruise hands down. First Navigator has no out door food options or places to get a water. So if you were swimming and you get hungry you have to get dressed to go into the buffet to eat. Magic had five places to eat and drink outside while you were swimming. This would not be a major thing if this was not the main thing you do on a cruise during the day. The food was also not very good besides a couple of the meals. I had the same dinner three times and it was not that good the first night. The waiter was rude and made a big deal if you asked for some thing different or seconds if you did find something you liked. The one thing I did like about this ship was the surfing at the back of the ship but the line was 20 plus deep most of the time. So when you ride for one minute and wait thirty minutes to ride again it kills the fun. The bed was more comfortable on Navigator but it also had a mattress pad on it so I am not sure if that was from a previous guest or standard for all rooms. After the buffet closes the only place to get something to eat for a mid night snack would be the sandwich shop on level five that was horrible anyways. So the lines would be long and hard to find a seat if you wanted to stay and eat. I did not find the ship exterior to be clean at all and was a running joke at the dinner table on if they had anyone to clean the ship. So I can not say the employees are over worked because I did not see any actually working. The ice skating was a fun show and the one comedy show was good but both are short and only a couple of the 7 day cruise. On the last day I even had an employee on the sports deck offer to fight me for asking to play the dodge ball game that was scheduled at 4 that they canceled. When security was called they would not talk to the one witness who heard it all. Instead they took the employees word and said they could do nothing about it. This happened the last day anyways so it was just icing on the bad cruise. Personally I like Carnival cruise lines a lot better. I do think Royal is a prettier ship but the Magic was much better laid out.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Not only was the food bad it was hard to get any food. The lunch on sea days was good however.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The surfing was fun but a comedy club every day would be a huge increase. The ice skating is tiny and would only be good for very young kids.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
I wish they had the comedy club every night like the Carnival ships do. Also more movies on the large screen on the pool deck.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
Did not go with kids.

Service and Staff

A few of the staff were as nice as you would think but a few in general had a bad attitue or vibe. One employee tried to cause a fight.

Ship Quality

Very pretty ship

Ship tip

I would suggest trying the stand up surfing. I had never done it and that made for a few hours of fun on the trip. The lines can get long so try to go the first day before people start to line up. Dining room lunch was the best meal so I would suggest trying that.
