Review summary

MSC Fantasia is an enormous cruise ship, so don't be surprised if it takes a while to learn your way around. When MSC Fantasia sails from the Mediterranean, expect to hear lots of Italian and Portuguese spoken on board, as well as some German and Spanish. The Main Dining Room does a good job of assigning people who speak the same language to dinner tables for regular dining.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Mandatory CoViD-19 testing prior to embarkation was unexpected and unnecessary.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Main Dining Room menus were good, not great. I never tried any specialty restaurants. Not a single dinner menu included lobster.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
I would have preferred some sort of lecture/educational program, but none was offered. To be fair, it is likely due to the fact that there were so many different languages spoken on board, and English speakers were in the minority.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Anna Vinci was outstanding! The classical musicians were especially impressive.

Children's Programs

I did not travel with children and I never observed any children's programs on board.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
All staff wore masks, which was unnecessary, and makes communication difficult. Difficult communication is magnified by the fact that so many foreign languages were spoken aboard MSC Fantasia.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was kept very clean. My complaints about the ship's layout include the fact that there is no deck where one can take a walk around the entire ship. If MSC would permit cigar smoking on its balconies, I would consider upgrading to a balcony.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
For a solo traveler, the cabin was plenty roomy. It could have used a larger television, although I watched litte if any television programming.

Ship tip

Don't expect lobster to be on the menu.
