Review summary

After Covid-19 canceled this cruise in 2020, it was great to be able to finally go. We had done this itinerary once before and still enjoy it. Would prefer Halifax over St. John as a stop; more to do there.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Short wait in line, but got on quickly

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Chops was definitely worth it. MDR was also good. Sometimes the selection was not always appealing, but food was always good.

Viking Crown Lounge

5 out of 5

This is our favorite place to relax and overlook the ocean.

Schooner Bar

4 out of 5

Comfortable bar to relax in, but it can get a tad noisy at times.

Ben and Jerry/Latte-Tudes

5 out of 5

Great place to get specialty coffee.

Park Cafe

5 out of 5

Larger and more comfortable than the Diamond lounge. Great place to relax aft.

Chop's Grille

5 out of 5

Really great food and service. Worth the extra cost.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We didn't do many of the activities; being Covid conscious and no longer young enough to enjoy them. However, everyone else appeared to enjoy what was available.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Had a problem with the on the first night, but after calling, Housekeeping came at about midnight to make it more comfortable. The next day, the stateroom attendant (his name was Widi) fixed the bed to total comfort.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Staff was constantly cleaning and maintaining the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin was kept clean. Size worked for us and it was comfortable.

Ports of call

Baltimore, Maryland Did not visit port

Embarkation

Boston, Massachusetts

2 out of 5
Did not like our excursion which was the Harbor Cruise. This was a very poorly organized excursion with a lot of standing for long periods of time. Also, outside of seeing Old Ironsides from the water, there wasn't much else of interest. However, it was the long walk to the buses from the ship that was most disappointing. It is about 1/4 mile with no place to sit and rest along the way. My wife is handicapped and this did her in. This is the fault of the Port of Boston not Royal.

Portland, Maine

4 out of 5
Lighthouse and Kennebunkport. These really need to be separate excursions, because there was not enough time to see each location.

Bar Harbor, Maine

5 out of 5
No excursion. Shopping is great here and I highly recommend Stewmans Lobster Pound. There is food available for people who are allergic to seafood.

Saint John, New Brunswick

1 out of 5
No excursion. There is really nothing near the dock to go see and the excursions didn't appeal to us; so we stayed on the ship.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
This fastest we have ever gotten off a ship. We did self-assist and got off right away.
