Review summary

We’re so happy to be back to cruising. This was our 6th time on Carnival and definitely not our last. 5 days is always enough time for us to enjoy being away from home. We hope the Covid restrictions ease even more before our next cruise. The pre-cruise Covid test was the most stressful portion of the entire experience. And luckily we didn’t have to wear masks except during embarkation and debarkation. We hope the staff won’t need to continue to wear theirs into the hotter months. You can tell it’s a struggle for them in the heat of the day outside on deck. And I’m not sure if the new Muster checkin will last past Covid but the new way they operate the muster checkin is so much smoother than in the past. You just go and check in, watch them demonstrate the life jacket and you’re done. No more sitting and waiting for everyone in your muster station to arrive.

Embarkation

With the extra Covid requirements we thought for sure the embarkation would be delayed. Wow, Carnival impressed us for sure. We parked at 10:52am and stepped foot onto the ship by 11:15am!! Quickest experience so far

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Five stars would go to the Italian Restaurant! We decided to try the Italian restaurant this time around. One of the best meals we’ve had on Sunshine. Staff members Rissa and Jose were wonderful. We enjoy breakfast and lunch the most. We never went to the dining room this cruise. We just had the whole “go with the flow” mindset and just ate a buffet dinner when or if we got hungry at night.

Onboard Activities

Love the endless fun options they offer. We always find time for some trivia to break up our sun bathing. We missed out on the water slides this time.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
In the evenings we love the comedy shows and the solo singer entertainment. Ed was our favorite. We’re Ed groupies for sure. Haha

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Never any complaints. The service and staff is always top notch

Ship Quality

Funny how this is our 2nd time on the Sunshine and I was more confused by the ships floor plan this time around. Oh well, We always got where we needed to be. Even though Sunshine is showing her age you know the staff works endlessly to clean up after all of us. They are non stop and deserve more recognition for sure.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Either the interior cabin’s are getting smaller or hubby and my bellies are getting wider. Haha. Even though it felt smaller than in the past we only are in it to sleep so no complaints. Cabin was clean. Thank you Ariel! Bed was comfy. That’s all I need. Front Lido AC went out on the 1st night (Saturday) but Carnival had it fixed by midday Sunday.

Ship tip

If you’re not doing the cheers package, bring your own Tervis cup or purchase one the 1st day. They sell out fast. It comes in handy to have your own adult silly cup/coffee cup with lid.

We live close by. Charleston is a great city but we don’t spend any time here when we cruise. Our main focus is parking and getting on board

Disembarkation

Easy. We carry our luggage off with us and walk to the parking lot.
