Review summary

All in all, a good cruise. Went mostly to see Bermuda which was really pretty. Probably won't resail the "Sunshine" due to again, the crazy layout of the ship. We prefer a more up to date ship, & will probably sail Princess to Alaska next year.

Could have been a little faster

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Wonderful dining room food. Buffets were ok, some food good, other not so much. We did not try other dining rooms except 24 hour pizza good and of course 24 soft serve ice cream always a treat.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Putt putt golf challenging and fun. Plenty to do foozeball, pool, basketball and a huge round water slide for the kids which was super busy all the day. Movie selection on MUTS was good.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Most singers great voices. However being a smaller ship stage production sets not that impressive. Best show was the Studio 54 club. Not impressed with the area their productions in. Kind of plain compared to other Carnival & Princess ships we've been on. Great DJ .

Children's Programs

No kids with us

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Cannot say enough about Su our cabin steward. He was excellent. We had a regular zoo of towel animals in our room. He kept everything clean and refreshed. Kevin our head waiter in the dining room was by far the best we have ever had on Any cruise. Personable, very attentive, funny and went beyond to make each & every meal perfect for us. Also Mickey Gibson is the world's cruise ship Directors dream of a cruise Director. He was like the energized bunny. Constantly, I mean constantly, having something fun for everyone of all ages. Best personality ever, very caring about everyone. I cannot remember all the different crazy outfits he appeared in every day. I sure hope Carnival is paying him what his talent is worth. Cannot say enough about this young man.

Ship Quality

Do not care at all for the ships layout. Floors 4 & 5 were split. It was very hard to remember your way on how to get to the clubs ,bars and lounges due to the split layout. The Lido deck was the only deck that went and to end other than the cabin floors. We have cruised one other Carnival ship like this and the last day, we finally found the secret to getting around. Although this is an older ship, the crew is constantly wiping the handrails down, washing windows, cleaning floors, etc. Staff and crew very, very friendly. Spoke to us all the time. Their are hand washing stations on the Lido deck which we saw several people using and we personally used all the time.

Cabin / Stateroom

Premium balcony super comfy. Very roomy. Larger balcony. We had 1 long chaise, 2 chairs plus a table. The shower in our cabin was long instead of the usual small round ones where you can barely move, and this made it nice. We had a long couch and coffee table, plus 2 end bed tables. Our cabin colors were blue and neutral. Didn't prefer for the bright orange and green cabins some had. The windows and deck door glass in our cabins need to be refurbished. There was a film between it that obviously cannot be gotten to for cleaning. This makes your outside view somewhat cloudy. We had an Aft. cabin intensity read of the ship. We will not get again. VERY rocky at night sleeping. The best cabin for smoothness all the time is a midship cabin. We will forgo the larger Premium room for a regular balcony due to this. Seems most Premiums are in the rear for some reason.

Ship tip

It is a kinship especially with the cruise Director Mickey. Don't go into this cruise expecting everything to be perfect, because any cruise isn't perfect in some aspect.

Ports of call

Charleston, South Carolina

An older port. Our experience went smooth. Employees very friendly.

Princess Cays (Cruise Line Private Island)

A fun island. Lots of water activities to do - with A $$$. The oh church was good, burgers, hotdogs, chicken, veggies, lots of salads, tons of fresh fruit, and cookies. The percentage of cruisers always get off the deck area and follow everyone to the left where all the activities are which gets extremely crowded. If you just want a nice place to pay on a chaise, be close to the second dining but and bar, GO TO THE RIGHT instead of the left to a quieter, more relaxed area. MOST do not even know this side exists, because they just follow the flow of others.

King's Wharf, Bermuda

Lovely port. Lots of shops and eateries. Just wish Carnival had a cruise that stayed at least 2 nights instead of one night. We just did not have time to see the whole island. People which are mostly british, very cordial. Be prepared if you ride their buses, they drive VERY fast!!!. The beaches are beautiful and they all have the light pink soft sand.

Disembarkation

Horrible !!!. Had to wait excessively long . Lines were crazy. Elevators very difficult to get on when on each floor there are 30-40 people trying to get on. We finally took the steps since we just had2 small carryons. Be prepared to get 😞 frustrated. We had heard before this cruise that it would be this way.
