Review summary

We booked our cruise through which I highly recommend since they were very thorough and professional and got us the best deal, onboard spending and gave us $150 hotel voucher for booking through them and we paid for our hotel in Baton Rouge with the voucher. We  loved our Ports of Call and enjoyed spending time with the 21 friends and family members but were severely disappointed with Carnival Cruise Lines since our air conditioner in our room did not work at all. We were extremely hot and miserable any time we spent in our cabin and many other guests on the eighth floor were as well. I was in 8405 that had a balcony but we were not able to enjoy the view at all since we had to keep our curtain and door closed at all times to avoid burning up even more in the extreme heat of the Caribbean. We found out that the Air conditioner had been broken since the last week in July and Carnvial didn't bother to inform us so we had the option of rebooking on a different date which I definitely would have done to avoid having to sweat and be miserable  the whole time I was trying to sleep, relax in my cabin during the day or especially when I was trying to do my hair and makeup and get dressed for dinners etc in the evenings on the ship. Many times the halls on the eighth deck would be full of women complaining about the temperature in their cabins and trying to put on thier makeup in the halls or by the elevators where the temperature was cooler. Carnvial staff came to our room and took the temperature on several occasions to verify the heat problem  and eventually  apologized for the situation after many calls from myself and others especially my daughter that was in cabin 8431 I think with her family. They credit our onboard account $500 and offered us 15% off of our next cruise which is a decent gesture but does not in any way compensate for the aggravation of having exactly half of the vacation we planned and anticipated for months on end severely affected by the situation. The customer service was not what we have grown to expect from about 80% of the staff on the ship. They were very inattentive, non responsive and at times down right rude. Just seemed tired and uninterested in being friendly or helping. We also had at least one room on our floor with an overflowing toilet as I was walking down the hall one morning to find a lady yelling down the hall to room stewards to help her becuase her toilet was overflowing. The Maitre De and our room steward were great but our waitors at dinner and the front desk staff were not good at all. Carnival Dream and some of the staff did let us down and we will book with Royal Caribbean or Disney for all future cruises. We have sailed on Royal Caribbean, Disney and one other time on the Carnival Magic ship out of Galveston and loved all of those cruises but as I have stated, we  were severly disappointed with many aspects of this cruise. Magogony Bay in Routan Honduras was our favorite Port, no excursion needed just take the ski lift over to Mahogony Bay and enjoy a day in Paradise.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
We enjoyed all shows we attended but weren't blown away by anything in particular.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
Kids didn't ask to go very much but didnt have any complaints.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Very hard job but friendliness and familiarity with guests not anything near what we have experienced in the past on Carnival Magic and other cruise lines.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Beautiful ship with many lovely amenities but maintenance on air conditioner and plumbing is obviously needed.

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
Air conditioner must work when sailing in July in the Caribbean.

Ship tip

Take a morning or two to enjoy Brunch in the restaurtant instead of always eating at the buffet.
