Review summary

Overalll, everything was very nice and we really enjoyed ourselves.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was excellent. No longer had to stand in line to have your photo taken as your passport photo is now scanned for your folio and your card is in your mail box ready to use. We were on the ship in less than 30 minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food seems to have improved this year. Enjoyed all our meals especially our meal at the Pointe restaurant which was superb. Guys burgers and Mexican grill were both excellent.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Fitness center was nice. Don't really participate too much in on board activities but people seemed to enjoy them. Smoking is permitted in the Casino and this still causes an issue for non-smokers. Even if you try to stay in the non-smoking area the smoke still permeates and your clothes stink. Then you have the people with the "smokers cough" coughing and hacking all around you. Very unpleasant.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The female string trio "Allure Strings" that played in the lobby were absolutely fabulous. These 3 young women presented a most beautiful performance that could be heard throughout the ship's center. Male brass horn trio and evening band performers were also entertaining. Comedian "Vargus" was disappointing, his routine was not humorous at all.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Servers and staff are always excellent and hard working. They take steps to go over and beyond to service passengers. Our cabin steward "Devon" was always friendly and attentive to our needs. Casino floor servers, deck servers, especially, "Imade" and "Vladimyr" were all friendly, polite and courteous. We were unable to dock in Grand Turk due to weather and ship personnel quickly made amends to offer more activities and change scheduled events in order to accommodate an additional unexpected sea day. "Alberto" in the ship duty free store was very nice and helpful

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Ship was nice, easy to find your way around. Ship was clean however, one day a very strong smelling chemical of some sort was being used on our deck while passengers were on board. It smelled like varnish or paint and immediately triggered my asthma and a migraine. I understand maintenance must be kept up but this was really bad and maybe would be something they should use when passengers on not on board.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Cabin was standard. Comfortable but very, very noisy below us. Our cruise was free so we didn't complain as we would not normally stay on the deck one. There is a very small hair dryer that is kept in a drawer and difficult to maneuver. You have to hold the button in in order for it to work and the cord is short. So if you have long hair and really need a dryer you may want to bring your own.

Ship tip

Take motion sickness tablets before any ship departs! I don't usually get sick but this time the ocean was a bit rough and it got me. It is much easier to prevent motion sickness then to cure it! I was sick all day and had to go to the medical office for treatment.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

4 out of 5
Port was nice. Did not do and excursion

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

3 out of 5
Very nice although locals in the shopping areas tend to persistently badger you to shop in their stores as you are walking down the street. I understand this is their means of income, however, it is just too much and we ended up leaving that area in frustration and not shopping at all. Beach was beautiful!

Basseterre, St. Kitts

5 out of 5
Absolutely pristine! Took a tour with "Veronica" to the rain forest and observed some of the most picturesque scenery ever. Viewed the most stunning area where the Atlantic ocean and the Caribbean sea meet with a volcano in the back round, just breathtaking. Veronica was an excellent and very knowledgeable tour guide. She knew the answer to any question.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

4 out of 5
Port is near historical landmarks so you can walk to most of them. Island still has some damage due to the devastation of the hurricane but they are on their way to recovery, Did not do any excursions here but walked for miles.

Grand Turk Island Did not visit port

:( Absolutely heartbraking. This was the port I was looking forward to the most, but unfortunatley were we unable to dock here due to weather conditions. So for our own safety we had to leave. This was the second time for us to not be able to visit Grand Turk and we were also supposed to go there in Oct. or 2017 but were re-routed due to hurricane damage.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
This was the best disembarkation we have ever had out of 7 cruises. We were able to keep our luggage with us and we walked off the ship at 8:00 a.m. with absolutely no line at all. The customs line moved rapidly as well. Way to go Carnival! So organized.
