A: We docked at Fira and took the cable car up… we had very long lines to get to the top.. and come down, but worth it.

Answered by Ruby13 on August 26, 2023

A: Fira. You will be tendered to land. You will take the cable card , walk the steps or donkey ride.

Answered by Lizettevaldes on August 27, 2023

A: Ships tender into the port at the base of Fira, that’s where the cable cars are, the donkey path, and the speed boat to the port of Amoudi which is at the base of Oia. There is a 3rd port now, to the right of Fira, if you have booked a ship excursion... this is where the buses meet you. I was just there this year on June 1st.See More

A: We were just in Santorini yesterday. You need to plan for 90-120 minutes to get off the ship, tender and get up the mountain by cable car. You can do steps but it’s 600+ steps that wind around the mountain and you can the play the game of spot the do... nkey poop. Also, plan for same amount of time back down to tender or do the same steps.See More

A: It's impossible to answer this question without knowing your particular itinerary. Santorini is all about how effective your strategy is for tendering and getting up and down the cliff based on how many ships in port. We priority tender and take the... donkeys up. Super fast. Walk down. Absolutely beautiful and fast.See More

A: Never went for Donkeys or stairs. Stairs are crowded, very dirty. Stairs are shared with Donkeys. Filled with urine & $&)& from the donkeys. Do a ship excursion and it brings you to the top.

Answered by Catsam215 on December 17, 2022

A: When we went in September, yes. About a 40 minute wait but of course timing is everything. Prior to, we did a "sail the caldera" so we went early afternoon. Did the cable car up and down, dinner overlooking ship with magnificent sunset.

A: Ur is animal cruelty. They do not treat them well . cruise ship discourage using donkeys. You can walk

A: the day your there the only other ship of any size is the Norwegian breakaway.. 3800 guests...arriving an hour before you..so any option shouldn't be too bad

Answered by cbyron3 on December 18, 2022

A: I didn't have a long wait this past October 22nd. November is off season so you should be fine. Check cruisemapper to see how many ships in port that day.

Answered by michelleb1127 on December 17, 2022

A: Yes there is another way to the top. We took a bus tour that ended at the top. Unfortunately there is a wait to come down too. I noticed some women begging as we waited in line. I don’t think they were THAT poor as they had beautiful painted nails an... d hair. Be careful of that. Loved Santorini. My favorite place.See More

A: It’s right there where the tender drops you off, by the cable cars. I don’t think it’s that expensive

Answered by deboftheseas on September 9, 2022

A: it was €30 in July. The bus takes you back to Thira but doesn't include the cable car back down to the tenders.

Answered by cjs54 on September 10, 2022

A: I think it was €20 when we were there last November. That also included a return bus transfer.

Answered by maddy2017 on September 10, 2022

A: if I remember it was 20€, but that was like 4 years ago. takes like 15min and it included bus fair if I remember. so we took the bus from Oia to Akrotiri, which was really cool if you like history and then took the bus back to the cable car.

A: There is no easy answer to your question. Depends on how many people want to take the cable cars up!!!! Most of the excursions do not use the cable cars.

Answered by crusin4gramma on September 9, 2022

A: Depends on how many ships are in…being as you arrive at 2, and it’s a tender, you might be okay as most ships are in much earlier

Answered by deboftheseas on September 9, 2022

A: We were on RC and most of the excursions left (and returned) by bus or boat. A great number of people went up by donkey! Depending on the length of your stay. if you are going to return via the cable car, leave yourself plenty of time to get back t... o the ship, the line gets long!See More

Answered by crusin4gramma on September 9, 2022

A: Most excursions start at Fira, after you take the cable car up. Some ship excursions don’t use the cable car at the start but could still drop you off in Fira at the end and leave you to get it back down. The cable car journey itself doesn’t take lon... g but queues will vary depending on how many ships are visiting that day, check that out. Coming back down is when you can get the bigger queues as it’s not as staggered as it is on the way up where you have people arriving on different tenders.See More

A: Even though it may be busy ( ours was the only ship in port, and narrow streets get crowded easily), it is so worth seeing. Stunning. we took a tour to Oia to see the blue domed churches and then went back to Fira for the sunset which is just as beau... tiful and less crowded than Oia at sunset. We got a table at PK Cocktail bar and had amazing views. our evening spent there was magical.See More

A: It appears you have to take a tender boat and then you have to take a bus or gondola lift to get to the upper part of the island. I have never been, but I am REALLY looking forward to it!

Answered by tlwaldo on March 23, 2022

A: its a Tender, when you get to the port they have a speed boat for 20€ if I remember that will take you to Oia.

Answered by jasonvan2017 on April 8, 2022

A: Which town? Fira or Oia? Oia is the one on all the postcards, I recommend a bus tour as the town is up on the cliffs and you get to see some of the island on the drive Fira is the town with the cable car and donkeys, and is the capital of the islan... d. Both towns are pretty but definitely do Oia as a minimum.See More

Answered by KarenMA9 on April 6, 2022

A: No. You tender in and then you can either take the donkey, the gondola, or climb 6,000+ stairs. The town is on top of a volcano crater, so it's too shallow for ships to dock.

Answered by CruiseQueenNH on April 4, 2022

A: Whatever you do, don't take the donkey ride down the steps - unless you have really good insurance!

Answered by loge23 on March 29, 2022

A: The road is marble and can be slippery and it will take you a little bit to get up the hill and it feels narrower once you get to by the donkeys. Then you have to contend with hoping a donkey doesn't kick you, or that you step on donkey mess. The c... able car only hold so many people, and last time I was there was basically one up one down, so it may take a little bit while you wait for one.See More
