My cruise stopped at the Amber cove port, but I'm glad we took a little bit of time to do something fun within the city of Puerta Plata. We got a taxi (van) very easily to the Teleferico Cable Car. It was about 15 minutes away and cost the 3 of us $60 round trip. It was worth it, the driver was very nice and waited for us to finish whenever and drove us back. It was an organized operation with drivers all in the same outfits. You didn't feel like you were getting ripped off. The cable car was a really neat thing to do and only $10. It went up this gorgeous Green Mountain where you had views of the coast and ocean. Once you get up to the top of the mountain there were so many paths you could spend a couple hours walking around if you wanted. It was definitely a workout with lots of hills and steps. There was a snack bar and a sit down restaurant if you wanted to eat, we did not. The shop was a little bit annoying because it was all local people trying to pull you into their place and sell you. Still I recommend going here.

Took an excursion to the Damajagua waterfalls. It was an adventure but not worth it. The cruise port is newly built into a resort atmosphere with many shops, pools, and a lazy river. I wish I spent the day at the cruise port instead.

This is the nicest cruise port I’ve ever seen! Most of the time I always want to leave the port but this one had a resort within the port with a pool, bar, and beach access! We already had an excursion planned so we didn’t utilize it but it looked incredible. Also so many cool shops! We did a super fun waterfall excursion but the port itself looked amazing.

Are there any good shopping spots? Will be going here next December. Have plans for my others ports but nothing for here. Will be my first cruise. Thanks 😊

Noisy industrial dock area, nice cruise port area with lots of shops. We had the huge pool to ourselves for a long time and it is very nice! 4’ deep in center with a very large area around most of the pool at 4” deep. But pool lacks easier access with only one place to get in-out with steps or else a 3’8” drop. 7 out of 10

They have a new port that has just been built! Hung out at the pool and did a little shopping! Lovely place!

No need for an excursion here. There is a big pool and lounge chairs for free. Also, highly recommend paying $25 to get into Monkey Island. You get 30 minutes to play with squirrel monkeys and feed them. This is also right by the pools so you do not need to venture off. This port is still being built. Soon there will be an additional pool, and a huge lazy river for cruisers to enjoy. There is also a lot of shopping options. This was a very modern and clean port!

A lot of beautiful and interesting things to see in Puerto Plata. We did a city tour that included a run factory, cigar factory (which was more interesting than I expected), the fort, Pink Street, Umbrella Street, and Independence park.
