Water Shoes

So many of the excursion reviews for numerous places preach bringing water shoes... Now I may sound silly, but I've never heard, nor wore a pair of water shoes, and generally just deal with the rocks, sand, or whatever...

For those that live/breath by them, what are some good brands that you have found, are they cumbersome? The idea of wet shoes, just seem to be uncomfortable or dirty.

Choosing a water shoes depends on your needs, you should read this guide before buying one: https://www.soutdoors.com/best-water-shoes/

My BF was just looking at Khols to see if they have them ( I didn't think they did) but he may now be considering them too. We have a little bit of time to nail down the perfect shoe.

If you aren't wearing them more than 3 to 5 times on shore excursions or aboard ship, it makes no sense to spend $70 on a pair of water shoes. Why should they hang around your closet between cruises? I buy the cheap ones, wear them and leave them on the ship. Makes no sense bringing them home, take up space in my suitcase.

Yes, always protect the feet! Don't want to ruin your vacation.

We keep water shoes in the SUV for impromptu stops and also pack them while cruising. The last thing we want is a sliced toe or foot while on holiday. They are usually flexible and you can pack them in your cramped luggage without any troubles.

Given that my foot is red and painful ,,,go with the shoes!

I totally agree. Her summary is really awesome. A lot of people don't really know much about water shoes. I didn't & I've been around water all my life. Pool, lake, river, beach, you name it. And I didn't know.

maryred gives a great summary of watershoe types. If you are confident in your shoe size, Amazon is a great option for finding a pair at a competitive price.
One thing I suggest is not buying a larger size than you need. A snug fit is important because shoes are worn is to protect your feet on rocky or coral or otherwise rough surfaces. Watershoes get heavier when wet. A shoe that is too lose is actually dangerous because your foot slides around inside of it. It may not feel great on land but you will appreciate the snugness in wet terrain and under water.

Thanks Maryred! Super helpful information. Thanks!
