If you need a laugh, search 'pier runners cruise ships' on YouTube...funny stuff:) But definitely would not want to miss my ship leaving port.

I once saw some of our tablemates being "assisted" back to the ship (Majesty of the Seas) after the Fiesta Party Boat...

We just witnessed this very thing in Cozumel.. we were several minutes past our departure time.. and we watched from our balcony.. 4 people just 'meander' along... like no rush/no hurry..holding their yard long drinks... then we saw some staff motioning to them from the gangway.. then suddenly they came running as fast as they could...shopping bags flapping, hats falling off.. someone lost a shoe... it was quite entertaining...but I couldnt help wonder.. "what were you doing".. & did they not notice there was NO ONE left around them... Shops all closing up/no one around/music stopped/ that would be a CLUE to me... lol.

The best place to watch for "pier runners" is Cozumel. Doesn't matter which cruiseline, they are ALWAYS running back to the ship.

>>It seems like "Pier runners" are always seen at the same ports of call.

I especially like to watch as we leave a port at night ... knowing that a few have actually spent the day in the local Cantina's (drinking marguarita's) & stagger back to the ship .... It's moments like that I always am thankful that I wait & drink on board!!!! I'd hate to miss the ship!

Good Points by all made. Actually it is not unusual for the cruise ship scanner devices to actually make a beep sound as you come back on board, but the operator fails to see (especially when busy with crowds) that the scan actually did not register properly, and often results in people actually being on board ship, but the ships crew is showing them as a not returned. Which is why you hear the names read over the PA system to hopefully be able to resolve the issue without too much delay!
Hope that helps!
