Wonder of the Seas

7 Night Eastern Caribbean (Port Canaveral Roundtrip)

Sail date: January 15, 2023

Ship: Wonder of the Seas

Cabin type: Suite

Cabin number: 1764

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

Loved the ship and suite services. About 6200 guests sailed. Elevator performance stressed and there were long waits. Up to 20 minutes. Abled body cad use stairs but many with strollers, walkers and wheelchairs. RCL needs to fix this on next Gen ships.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Sailed in Sky Class which comes with embarkation perks. Missing signage guided us away from where we needed to be. But was able to rejoin on our group. Terminal seems a bit dated for the newest ship. So not comfortable during wait. Transport drop off point also poorly controlled and congested.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5

150 Central Park

4 out of 5

Found this to be the best experience. Food very good and service better than other venues. They had issues with attentiveness and keeping water glasses filled.

Chops Grille

3 out of 5

Food mediocre and service poor. Spent 2 hrs for a lunch and 11/2 at dinner. Server would just disappear.

Wonderland

4 out of 5

Exotic dishes with entertaining staff. Much of the muni offers deconstructed menu items. Unique

Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade

4 out of 5

Love use onion rings and wings. Best sports bar on the ship.

Coastal Kitchen

3 out of 5

Food was good but service very poor. Not a meal we had that our order required a “go back”. We ordered a margarita flatbread on day and on the underside, had blue materiel. Called chef and he admitted they put it on a dirty pastry tray. Fail! Most of the service staff was very passive - no energy. Bar staff was the high point in the suite area.

Izumi

4 out of 5

Typical hibachi dinner. Ample portions and attentive service. Too much use of soy over seasoned the food.

Hooked Seafood

4 out of 5

One of our favorites. Nice selection of seafood. We ate a lot of raw oysters. The shucker was overwhelmed and had issues keeping up with demand. Service very attentive.

Park Cafe

4 out of 5

Nice selection for breakfast or lunch and not overly crowded. Service was good.

Johnny Rockets

3 out of 5

Hamburger fast food good for what it is. Service was actually the most attentive here.

Suite Lounge

4 out of 5

Excellent hor’douvres for happy hour. Bar staff great, but could not keep enough bottle water on hand for guests. Venue is too small for number of suite and pinnacle guests.

Giovanni's Italian Kitchen

3 out of 5

Mediocre food and lax staff .

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
So much to do besides water activities. Zipline, surf, rock climbing, minigolf. Pool areas well used. Movies at night .

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Fantastic shows with Aqutheater - Intense. And a couple of great origins theater productions. Voices and Effectors

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Some staff were a 5 - housekeeping, bar , concierge ; Found dining staff to be weak.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Amazing ship. Elevator capacity is very stressed with > 5000 passengers. This should be re evaluated in future design. We were on deck 17 and had issues with hot water in morning hours. Had to run shower for 10 minutes to get hot water.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Issue with hot water in early mornings. Had to run water for 10 minutes. Room steward was a 4/5. Found a dirty glass from previous sailing. Room space very ample. We’ll decorated. The balcony space was sufficient and equipped with the right kind of furniture.

Ship tip

If you’re in suites deck 17/18 you can use your sea pass card to call the right aft elevators on deck 5/6. There are 6 elevators that can service these decks.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

2 out of 5
Poorly designed for a ship of this size. Poor traffic flow to drop. Old terminal wait and checkin areas.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Sailed suite class so experience was very fast.

6200?! Yikes. I was Bliss when it was at 33% capacity in 2022. It was amazing! That's the first and last time I sail on a mega ship. I will never believe those who say "It never felt crowded." Yeah, right. Glad you enjoyed yourselves!
