Review summary

This was supposed to be a romantic fall excursion up the eastern seaboard. We had lots of sweaters and sweatshirts backed. At the last minute, we were told we were diverting to the Bahamas. Vision of the Seas is a floating nursing home with many senior citizens who practically live on the boat. As a result the food was bland and horrible, the activities were geared to them, as was the entertainment. We wouldn't have cared that much about the onboard stuff if we had gone where we were supposed to and gotten to do our planned shore excursions. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience, and all we got for our trouble was a $200 onboard credit.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Port in Baltimore was very easy to get on and off.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Food was bland, and often just not good. Not what we've come to expect from RC

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
This ship is on the small side so it was always cramped quarters for trivia and other activities. In addition, they were super pushy about the art auction and there was always some art auction stuff going on over the top of other activitiees.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The main show was very good. There were two comedians, one was better than the other. The band for the main show was very good, the rest of the live music was just okay.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Our waitstaff was fantastic. Very few people were getting off of this particular boat, so very few people at the excursions desk, but both times we went the staff was very unfriendly. When we first boarded, our room was filthy. The cruise director was pretty low energy (which I actually don't mind), but he didn't seem like he wanted to be there.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
This is an older ship, but it just felt dirty in a lot of places. Our room and the hallway we were staying in always seemed to have an unpleasant odor. Our room was filthy when we first checked in.

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
The smallest room we've ever had. The bed was shoved up against one wall and it was vey hard to get in and out of. The shower curtain was several inches too short and it was impossible to take a shower without causing a mess.

Ship tip

Don't do it. The average age of the cruisers was 70 ish. We were diverted twice, had a person die and had multiple medical emergencies. The onboard activities and bland food made it feel like we were on a floating nursing home.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
The Port in Baltimore is really easy on/off. It took us an extra 15/20 minutes to get off the ship because of how slow people were moving.

I would rather cruise with the nursing home cruisers than the punk ass kids running the halls around the clock.
