Review summary

I understand being rerouted because of the hurricane and we could have canceled so we just made the best of it. Also had to come back two days later so our nine days turned into eleven.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
The previous cruise returned late so we had to board later

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The windjammer at lunch time was horrible. The food was almost inedible. The “grill”had precooked hamburgers and hotdogs. I will say that the staff were incredible and could not have been more helpful.

Main Dining Room

3 out of 5

Food was just ok. Portions were very small. While I realize no one is going to starve on a cruise, the shrimp Alfredo had four little shrimp sitting on top. That is the same amount as the appetizer and it’s supposed to be a main meal. The New York strip is about 1/4 inch thick so hard to get that medium rare. Appetizers and desserts were repeated often.

Park Cafe

4 out of 5

The roast beef sandwiches here are not to be missed. The only problem was the hours. They are open for breakfast until 11:30 then close until they open again at 1pm for lunch. If you have first dining at 5:15, that’s a little late to eat lunch.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5

Solarium

5 out of 5

Solarium is awesome! Nice to have stairs going in to pool instead of just ladder. Very peaceful!

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Need more comedians. Only had one. The median age on this cruise was about 75 but the movie shown the most was Little Mermaid. Many kid’s movies but there were only about 5 children on board.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff were incredible. Probably helped that there was less than one thousand guests on board since we were rerouted because of the hurricane.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
My biggest complaint was placement of rental mobility scooter. When I rented the year before with Carnival, you picked up the scooter at the pier. You used it to board the ship up that long winding ramp. On Royal they make them put them in your room. You do not have them to board and cannot even get them until your room is ready hours later. Very inconvenient! Why waste crew members time having to bring people on board by wheelchair.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Very well thought out room design. Storage could use more shelves in the closets.

Ship tip

As long as you realize she is an older ship without all the bells and whistles and not quite shiny and new, you will have an enjoyable cruise.

Quick and easy since we carried our luggage off. We were off by 8am.
