Review summary

Vision of the Seas had a great staff. If it's your first time cruising this is perfect especially for a 4-night cruise. If you've been on cruises before or are taking an extended Cruise you might want to take a little larger ship. We had a great time. Vision is Good Ship and was clean and was what I expected.

Once the shuttle finally got us to the terminal it went great. Went through quickly and got on board even though boarding was delayed an hour due to a mandatory Coast Guard inspection that we knew about a few days in advance.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The main dining room was great. Our servers were Remy and Iryna and they were amazing. Food was good every night and we made reservations with My Time Dining at either 7 or 7:30. The bad thing was the shows started at either 6:30 or 7:30. So the last night I went early to the dining room to see if we could push back our reservation to 7:45 so we could catch a 6:30 show and it was no problem. We never ate in the main dining room for breakfast or lunch. We went to the Windjammer Cafe. I opted for a made to order omelette every morning and it was consistently good. Lunch there never looked too appealing but there were plenty of people all the time eating. The soda package is the one I bought online before the trip. I stupidly upgrade 2 the adult beverage all inclusive package while I'm bored to the tune of $300. They said i would get a refund for the soda package. But i have not seen that yet. Drinks were good and Paul was a fun bartender at the pool bar. I never caught his name but the man bartending in the schooner bar always made us feel bad for coming to ask for Diet Cokes in our cups. You have to get drinks at bars and I suppose he thought he was above this and if he ignored us enough or scowled enough we would go to another bar. I drink iced tea and other than having iced tea with dinner I only found one machine that had Ice-T in the Windjammer next to the juice.

Onboard Activities

The main pool was fun to sit by for a while and watch/listen to music but then we tried to retreat to the Solarium adult pool. The hot tubs seemed to be full and we could not find a place for 2 chairs together so get there early if this is something you want to do. Also I am usually hot and it was too warm in there for me most days. The last day at sea was very windy and overcast so it was a nice Retreat to get warm.

Entertainment

Unfortunately we only saw one show in the Masquerade theater the last night called Rhythm and Rhyme. It was very good and entertaining and lasted just right length of time. We heard the tribute to the Eagles really good night before and wish we had gone. Ken, the cruise director was always lots of fun and we enjoyed watching them perform during Disco Night in the main area of the lobby.

Children's Programs

No children.

Service and Staff

Our main dining room waiters were amazing...Remy from India and Iryna from the Ukraine. Also our room steward was so sweet. I think her name was Marivini. She found an extension cord and distilled water for me for my CPAP machine. And she kept our room clean several times a day. Most all of the Personnel were always Pleasant had a smile and a greeting from the Workman on the ship to our Steward and Waiters. Paul at the main pool bar was fun. The only downside was the Sour Puss in the Schooner bar. I think he seemed irritated with us for asking to fill our glasses with Diet Coke.

Ship Quality

There were always people cleaning and working and we found no fault with the cleanliness of the ship or our rooms. By the last day of the cruise we were finally figuring out our way around and what venue was on what deck.

Cabin / Stateroom

Size was about what I figured. I ordered the birthday decorations and chocolate covered strawberries for my mom and they were up and in our cabin when we arrived . We had plenty of drawers and space for two people. I knew to unpack and get our big suitcases out of the way right off the bat. Bathroom was small but I knew it would be. I guess my only complaint would be that although the shower head was awesome and the water was always hot the shower curtain would blow in and stick to you. This is my second cruise and we had a window where as last time I had an inside room. The window sometimes seemed a little foggy but all in all much better to have a view. Also I purposely chose the third floor and we weren't too far from stairs and elevator mid to the back of the ship . We typically did not feel too much movement. The first evening above our head it sounded as if a child was jumping. I grabbed the chair and bang on the ceiling and we never heard it again. Our friend was a little closer to the elevator and she did here that all night long... she was about seven cabins up from us closer to the elevators.

Ship tip

Do not upgrade your drink packages on board. Stick with the one you have and buy it beforehand. On the last night of the cruise when they say to have your luggage out by 11 p.m. they mean it. I got ours out at 11:02 and there was not a bag in the Hall other than ours. The last night of the cruise in the Viking Lounge they played a game called quest and I would have loved to have seen more of that. Also if you are looking for a quiet place to get away and set on Deck it was either five or six down by where the employees enter, you get a Windbreak and it's extremely quiet.

We would have gotten off ship early at 8:30. However my mom had an asthma attack and needed to have a wheel chair which we did not set up ahead of time. We ended up getting off the ship about an hour later due to waiting on the list. You might be able to borrow a wheelchair yourself and push someone... the person working this area didn't seem inclined to want us to do that however one person did. Waiting on someone to come back because they have to get them all the way through customs and they go all the way to your stop with you and wait for a few minutes it takes time for them to get back with the wheelchair. However other than this it was very smooth we got right off the ship and went straight through customs not a problem. My advice is if you know you're going to need a wheelchair set it up beforehand.
