Review summary

We enjoyed the river cruise experience and are hooked. It is very different than the ocean cruise experiences we have had in the past. Both are good, but different. We were happy with the low key, close up, relaxing experience. Met some really nice people and the Viking staff was so pleasant. We will return for sure.

Very smooth.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Restaurant and terrace dining were lovely. Always plenty of offerings. Staff very friendly. Just one night, steak was tough, not very good.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Only activities on board were walking track, shuffleboard and putting green and did not make use of any of them, but saw others enjoying. Your activities were mainly touring and exploring the surrounding port area.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The pianist, Lazo, was very good and entertaining. The local entertainment brought on board was very enjoyable and the one game night we took part in with others was a lot of fun.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
95% of the time, the staff was super friendly and accommodating. Just one experience at the front desk when we were given the wrong transportation information in Budapest and felt we were being rushed. Only that one person. All others were fantastic. Mark, our tour director, was so funny, personable and entertaining.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Beautiful, the large windows in the lounge and dining area made for lovely settings, when you weren't blocked by another ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Very comfortable and roomy enough. Always kept clean. However, the daily fruit brought to out suite, was not always good. Also, should be a note indicating the mini bar in the suite is complementary.

Ship tip

Book the suite if you can, the extra room and amenities are worth it.

Ports of call

Budapest, Hungary

Yes, we thoroughly enjoyed Budapest. We did the optional walking tour and had a terrific guide. The afternoon I had purchased tickets through Viator for the Gellert Bath House and it was amazing. We enjoyed that experience. And the ease of getting there with the No. 2 tram right outside the ship's port was so convenient. Although the woman at the Viking desk at the time did not give us accurate info on the transportation to the bath house. We found the correct info from our walking tour guide. She seemed to push the taxi option and also seemed to be in a rush to push us out of the way. Other than that, we enjoyed our time in the Budapest port. Point of info...I was in Budapest many years ago while it was under Communist occupation and very depressing; I was so very happy to see a different Budapest thriving with happy, friendly people.

Bratislava, Slovakia

We did the included excursion which we enjoyed.

Vienna, Austria

5 out of 5
We did the included excursion in the morning which was very informative and good. We then returned to ship to refresh and ventured out with the metro on our own to St. Stephens Square which worked out very well as we were informed by our tour guide that morning. Transportation very nice and easy. Only disappointment was the amount of graffiti in Vienna. Also did the Mozart/Strauss concert in the evening, very Vienna, very entertaining.

Krems, Austria

Loved this part of Austria. Did the e-bike tour offered with Viking. Tour guides were excellent and the trip to Durnstein was so pleasant and enjoyable. Wish we could have spent more time there.

Linz, Austria

5 out of 5
We did the excursion to Chesky Krumlov which was absolutely amazing. What a great day! Upon our return to ship, we did venture out walking the streets of Linz in search of the recommended bakery, home of the linzer torte. We found it as well as the largest cathedral in Austria. Another wonderful day. Linz was terrific, such a beautiful little town.

Passau, Germany

5 out of 5
We did another e-bike tour of Bavaria which took us along the Inn River. The scenery was gorgeous. The tour company could have been a little more organized. Afterwards we walked around town when we returned and had a pleasant afternoon.

Disembarkation

Everything was handled perfectly and efficiently.
