This truly was the trip of a lifetime. The included free tours were very worthwhile. They locals they hire are knowledgeable and entertaining. We had several add-ons as well that turned out to be excellent too. We are bitterly disappointed that we only got 5 days on the ship, but we did find the German surgeons and aftercare to be high quality. We will find out how good the trip insurance is...
Embarkation
5 out of 5
We opted for the pre-cruise Budapest hotel for 2 nights. They put us up at the Castle district Hilton, and the views were spectacular. The hotel was quiet and lovely. Embarkation was seamless.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
The cruise was only about 50% full, so we had lots of attention. The food was wonderful, the portions were not huge and included wine or beer with no extra charge.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Very limited, but in fairness, this is a small ship with limited deck space due to low bridges. Besides, who wanted to stay on board during the day?
Entertainment
3 out of 5
The entertainment consisted of an elderly man playing the piano for the most part. While in Vienna, a professor came in to talk about local history and he was just great. Some game nights.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
My husband had a medical emergency and we had to end our journey early for his surgery. The ship's hotel manager moved mountains to help us. He had the ambulance meet us upon docking, and with my permission, found a hotel near the hospital AND personally delivered our luggage there. He called me every day to check-in on us, and rearranged our flight home from a different airport - at no extra charge. He genuinely care about us.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Comfortable and well designed. We enjoyed the coffee bar where we found breakfast pastries and cookies. The ship is compact, but feels bright and airy.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
We had a balcony room which suited us very well. Simple, clean Scandinavian design. Lots of energy savings details. There was plenty of storage space and it was serviced twice daily.
Ship tip
There is a pull-out cord in the shower where you can wash and hang out socks and undies if you want to. Getting laundry done on board is very expensive.
