A great trip to learn more about Russia and the Russian people

We enjoyed this cruise although it was organized very differently from our previous Viking River Cruise. The itinerary was good and enabled us to optimize our time in Russia. Unfortunately, one of our ports of call, Kizhi Island, was canceled due to issues with the fog. We didn't like the layout of this ship as much as we did the longboats as there were many steps that were rather precarious. The food on this trip was not nearly as good as the Grand European although the desserts were divine. We thought the costs of the shore excursions was very expensive, but they were excellent tours with great guides. Our biggest surprise was how beautiful and colorful Moscow is. The Russians were very friendly and welcoming. We felt very safe the entire time.

Cabin / Stateroom
Our assistant, Dasha, did a very good job. The only issue was the noise level was high because we were close to where they tied up the boat.
Embarkation and Disembarkation
The two men taking us to our transportation when we arrived got lost and couldn't find the vehicle. It was dark and we were wandering around. Disembarkation went fine.
Ship Quality
Too many steps, and the steps were rather precarious. There was also a lack of public bathrooms - just one by the dining room. The ship was very clean.
Destinations and Excursions
The excursions were great, but they were very expensive.
Onboard Activities
Children's Programs Not applicable
The two musicians were very good, and we enjoyed them. The problem was that they weren't scheduled for the cocktail hour or even daily.
Service and Staff
The service was good with the exception of the Sky Bar during cocktail hour. Several nights we waited 45 minutes before being served a cocktail.
Food and Dining
Food in general was not that good, but the desserts were wonderful, and service was good.

Cruise Moscow Canal
Condition of the boat was not that good.

Yaroslavl, Russian Federation

This port of call was canceled.
Cruise Svir River
Mandrogi, Russian Federation
We felt like this was a total tourist trip with little historical or cultural value.
St. Petersburg, Russian Federation

The food needs to be improved, except for the desserts which were great.
