Highly recommended to do the Jeruselem pre-tour. This allowed your to meet and bond with many guests, and we remined as a group during the cruise. Overall, the 43 days in Cairo and the cruse was spectacular. We never felt unsafe (we did have armed escorts and police cruisers with us). This was a highly educational, spiritual and enlightening trip. I highly recomend putting this on your bucket list. Viking does a fabulous job.

Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Most of the food was great, except for the lunch if you ordered from the menu. Stick with the excellent buffet.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Not really applicabale as this was a River cruise and all activities/tours are off the ship. The internet reception was not good.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
River cruises have limited entertainment on Board. We did have a local belly dancer and Nubian performers that were local not professional performers. The piano player was very good but most guests were too tired after the day touring to spend time in the lounge after dinner
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Extremely personable. Knew guests names quickly. Everything on service and staff was top notch. Daniel , the hotel director was awesome as was Marina the Maitre De was aslo great! The whole wait staff including the chef was great, as was the front desk staff and the room attendants. The best we have had.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
This was a refurbished ship and they had to work with what they had. Cleanliness was excellent!
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Clenliness was excellent and the beds and pillows were great. The cabin had limited storage for clothes which was an issue. Also not enough hangers and no hooks or towel bars in the bathroom to hang towels. The walls are thin, so you could hear noise from adjacent cabins.
Ship tip
You must be in good physical shape to do this trip. We had one person who was walking with a cane and he could not do several portions of the tours. The is miles of walking each day, uphill and stairs.
Loved the tors. The Karnak and Luxor Temples were amazing. The Valley of the Kings & Queen Neferteri's tomb exceeded our expectations. Loved waking up to see the many hot air balloons flying over the Valley of the Kings . (optiomal tour we did not do)
Spent 2 days here. The Temples of Abu Simbel, sailing on the Nile and visiting the Nubian Village made this a great experience. Saw kids attending school and visited a Nubian home, where we had fresh bread and tea and could get a henna tattoo. We also did the optional light show at night at the Temples of Philae, which we visited again the next morning. However we did not see the papayrus Institute as planned due to an acident that blocked the road.
