Review summary

Cruising through the island’s and narrow passages surrounding the Antarctic peninsula brought incredible scenery probably unique to planet earth with awesome mountains, glaciers, icebergs and occasional sea life. Cruising Norway, Patagonia and Alaska’s inside passage are gorgeous, they are all similar whereas Antarctica is unique.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The world cafe is superb with dedicated grills for steaks and lobster, dedicated sushi station, and great diversity in buffet options.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Spa, lecturers and comfy uncrowded living spaces

Entertainment

Not, by design, part of the experience

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Superb all around

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Viking’s common areas were virtually as large as on their larger ocean going ships with only 49% of passengers. Fewer specialty dining options but superb world cafe.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Layout of basic cabin on expedition ship is better than on ocean ship because of added closest space and easier access.

Ship tip

Skip the higher priced cabins as not worth the high markup, over $600 a day for 55 extra square feet.

Ports of call

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Not serious part of cruise. Exhaustion from flights from states limits usefulness of day there.
